Post by: djavo on March 21, 2012, 08:31:28 pm
Why does it taste so strange? And vice versa if you are from Conectictutuctut and tried European milk?

I think your cows are unhappy?

If it lasts for more than a week then it's had some weird shit done to it. Where I live, shit like that is frowned upon. We only drink milk that is atleast somewhat natural. I live down the hill from a farm and get most of my milk from the farmer. I also get pork, chicken, eggs and turkey from him. He smokes his bacon like none I have ever tasted. Really, really great. If you live near a farm then go and buy some shit from him. You'll thank me.

In the US there's far less restrictions than Europe with what milk producers can do to the milk, to the cows and to the cows' food; hormonal treatment, anti-biotics, genetic manipulation, preservatives etc. Not only does this greatly hurt the animals it also has dangerous repercussions for the consumers (see links).
Other American milk (like some Southern European) simply has a lot of added flavours, usually sugar.

Why is American Milk Banned in Europe? (http://www.preventcancer.com/consumers/general/milk.htm) (Article)

Monsanto's Genetically Modified Milk Ruled Unsafe by The United Nations (http://://www.preventcancer.com/press/releases/aug24_99.htm) (Article)

Quote
The Codex Alimentarius Commission, the U.N. Food Safety Agency representing 101 nations worldwide, has ruled unanimously in favor of the 1993 European moratorium on Monsanto's genetically engineered hormonal milk (rBGH). This unexpected ruling, revealingly greeted by the U.S. press with deafeningsilence, is a powerful blow against U.S. global trade policies which are strongly influenced by powerful multi-national corporations, such as Monsanto.

Two Fox News journalists were actually bribed by their TV station under pressure from the Monsanto Corporation to ditch this story some years ago, fortunately for american consumers (here amongst a majority of kids) it got out anyway. For some reason no governmental health inspection had raised the alarm.

The cleanest and freshest (sold the day it has been tapped) industrial milk in the World is from Arla Foods which is a Danish-Swedish company, and which more or less has monopoly in Scandinavia.

I just read it can be bad as soy on it's own isn't a really very healthy at all. Also, it supposedly helps lead to weight gain? Well fuck me. It's as counter productive as skim milk!
The only one I was aware of before this was the whole estrogen myth.

What do you two know about Connectcictcucut? The corner is basically NYC jr. and the rest is typical of what you find across the rest of the US.

http://www.ehow.com/list_6183526_health-risks-drinking-soy-milk.html - "Many soy milk health risks are attributed to significant intake. Just like any other food and drugs, anything taken beyond moderation becomes unhealthy, or even fatal. Other health risks of drinking soy milk may include development of kidney stones, weakening of the immune system, developing soy allergens and digestive intolerance. The anti-nutrients due to the phytic acid content of soy can also lead to osteoporosis later in life."

I used to drink about a pint of soy milk a day untill I started reading online about the sort of problems people had had after drinking the stuff. I doubt I would have got ill but i'm the sort of person who will see a spider on the floor and then spend the rest of the day scratching his back because he thinks it is on his back. Shame too since it tastes really nice.

Milk with sugar? Holy shit...

It is interesting how there's Monsanto milk with all kinds of wierd mad doctor lab experiments and cancer-inducing, profit-maximizing effects, millions of cows that are tortured throughout their entire life cycles, that swell up with inflammation and pus and are in turn filled with a variety of synthetic antibiotics whose effects when going from cow to milk to consumer have not yet properly been tested, and in the instances where it has has been demonstrated to cause all kinds of serious problems for the human physiology - and yet people are mostly astounded that there's sugar in it

i guess all the milk you can buy in supermarket tastes like shit (no matter if its from US or EU) compared to one from the farmer that went just through minimal pasterization.

There is one disease among cows I don't remember that can cause you serious health issues that I also don't remember. The only way to prevent this is to pasterize the milk (and kill the cow, but the problem is the disease is difficult to spot in the early stage). My cousin has 300+ cows and a huge farm and he himself said he'd not drink unpasterized milk. On the other hand he says that what you buy from a shop is not a milk - and after I drank his milk straight from the farm I can confirm that.

TBC?

I think it's Tubercolosis that you can get from unpasturized milk.

If the cow is healthy however, it should be fine iirc. I'm no expert at this.

Also the milk in supermarkets is full with artificial crap added to it. That's obvious, and sad.

PS: Djavo, What's "Hungry milk"? If you typoed my country, fix please.  :)

Well, I wouldn't think you would give milk to someone who has some sort of compromised immune system, babies or geriatrics, and if the cow is healthy and the utters are cleaned before hand I really couldn't see how it could be any more risky to consume then raw-eggs. Sure there is a supposed elevated risk of getting sick but I've turned my stomach eating Chipotle, it's all about knowing the sources of your foods.

if the cow is healthy you don't have to be afraid of this at all. the problem is the disease is difficult to spot in early stages and some milk can be infected while the cow(s) still looks healthy.
