Alright, first off what kind of archer do you want to play?
Are you going to shoot from the ground or on a horse?
Are you looking for getting the majority of your kills from headshots and being good at anti-archer operations OR are you looking to do significant amounts of damage with bodyshots and doing anti-cav operations and infantry flinching but suck at long range shooting? (A billion English teachers died reading that).
Are you wanting to be a dedicated archer like the above, or be more of a skirmisher and waste points on melee (Or be a harasser and waste an additional slot and points on using a shield and 1 hander).

archer - bows
Khergit
Strong
War
Khergit may be too weak unless it is heirloomed
stats/skills
6pd seems to be the most effective so you need 18str for that
you want your wpf to be around 150 so that would be Weapon Mastery level 6
Which you need 18agi for
that makes 18/18 , from there you can do pretty much anything else you want
either convert up to 21/18 or 18/21
or have more skills to play around with.
Best to keep with the light-med armors so your wpf stays high enough
TIPS:
move while drawing the bow back and stop right before releasing shot.
move backwards against footmen and side to side against ranged.
secondary weapon should be high damage to prevent as many glancing blows

I want to be a ranged too for my next gen and as i dont really like the xbow gameplay i'll probably go for a bow (throwing are too op for me =x), as i understood there are 3 viable choice :
1: light arche (as you use strongbow it not a long range but really accurate at mid range, that mean deadly headshot)
Strength: 15
Agility: 24
Hit points: 50
Converted: 8
Ironflesh: 0
Power Strike: 4
Shield: 0
Athletics: 6
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 5
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 8
Polearm: 113 (ofc i can go for everything i want for mele)
Crossbow: 150
2:heavy archer (as you use warbow you can kill at longrange but you'll get less wpf (a bit) i dont know if it will really matter to hs at longrange)
Strength: 18
Agility: 21
Hit points: 53
Converted: 8
Ironflesh: 0
Power Strike: 4
Shield: 0
Athletics: 6
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 6
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 7
Polearm: 100
Archery: 146
3: well i dont know if it's really viable but it's something like that, longbow fullranged to do lot of longrange dmg (longbow is really more accurate at longrange that others bow)
Strength: 27
Agility: 15
Hit points: 62
Converted: 14
Ironflesh: 0
Power Strike: 0
Shield: 0
Athletics: 3
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 9
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 5
Archery: 148 (ofc you wont kill anyone with a mele fight)
so there's the 1:light archer : can easely hit and run and fight in mele pretty well (lot of agi so lot of wpf for mele weapons).
2:medium archer : can snipe and does better dmg but you cant really be a ninja.
3:heavy archer : really bad at mele but can kill at longrange and kill horses fast.
Correct me if i'm wrong,
Thanks.

I would like to use the longbow, but it is said that it sucks..
So I think the mainstreamwarbow is the best archerweapon.
As long PD does not increase accuracy, PD 6 is sufficient. Doing 3-4 damage more for 1 PD does not make you a killing machine. But it would be interessing if the longer stabilty of the redicule is useful(+1PD then requirement)
-
start with 15 str(5PD), then get 18 agi, then if u feel u dmg to little get 18 str (6PD), then get rest agi
-
Coming from a guy with 10 PD, the extra stability of the reticule is absolute bliss.
Take that as you wish.

The most recent patch update removes a reason to use the warbow. Right now the warbow and strong bow have the EXACT same shoot speed, which means same distance shooting. You lose 4 draw speed to get 3 more cut damage and pay the upkeep of a bow half again as expensive. chadz may fix this in the next patch, but either go with a decent rate of fire and bodkin arrows with the strong bow or even khergit bow or do that 8-9 powerdraw route, use the long range long bow to snipe.
For the guy that did the build above just go 24-15 and only convert 8 points and you can put points into powerstrike, use a 98+ speed longsword or bastard sword and you shouldn't have a problem with meleeing and doing decent damage with a very very slow longbow.
I am doing 21-21 right now with 14 converted points, 7 weaponmaster, 7 powerdraw, 3 athletics, 160 wpf in archery, the rest in polearm and using a bec de corbin, the pierce damage lets me get away with 0 powerstrike, and the bow is masterwork strong bow. I was considering doing 21-18 and 1 wpf in melee but using a fast 2her with 6 powerstrike which is also another viable option (just have been 2her too much lately) and still have almost as high wpf in archery.

Can you fraps some shooting for me, Tears?
I've got an archer with 10 PD and 136 wpf in archery and use MW warbow. Your reticule with this build is large and unstable. Your accuracy is bad. You must forget about long range with this build. Only short-medium. For warbow you need 155+ wpf to be decent. And all you get with this +4 pd over requirement is + 8 cut damage. With really big trade-off (no speed, no accuracy, no melee skillpoints etc...).
7 PD is viable choice. But if you want oneshoot people with bows, take xbow instead.

Erm, well yes, I do forget about long distance shooting and take up dedicated medium range duty against horses and tin cans. My build is not a sniper build by any stretch of the imagination, it is designed for all of those lovely close-in urban maps that are so prevalent on a certain server where shooting anything past 10 or 15 meters is impossible anyways, so I care not one whit of the size of my reticule (which btw still closes far enough to blow off some poor horse's head).
I am content with mainly being useless against sniper fests against other archers, or picking off people from a range. I am more of a turret then a sniper rifle and I am ok with that.
As for the Fraps, I do not have that installed, my apologies.
EDIT: I admit that next build I am going to go with an 8PD-ish build this time to make room for more accuracy just for a change in roles.

I heard that PD increase also armor penetration but it's maybe outdated, so maybe 1 pd is more than +3-4 dmg against heavy armored ^^.
