Title: Maps Carved By Carpenter
Post by: Mr_Carpenter on March 18, 2012, 01:50:25 pm
Forest Lake

-This is first finished map ever made by me, I got I was just scrolling the scene editing topics and saw this (http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php?topic=155.0), I liked the overlay and the general idea so I decided to give it a shot. I didn't really make this to work only in foggy weather, this should work with any weather settings.

I foresee.. drowning deaths. Looks like it could be a fun map to play on, mostly for non-cav classes. Also, I live in Forest Lake and was hoping this was going to be a map of my town.

The map looks good and nice.  :D

Only fixable things i really saw, was a too strict ground texture change and exploitable bridge ends.
Placing a invisible barriers under the bridge end would easily solve the bridge exploit.
(click to show/hide)
Also the narrow edge in the southern side of the lake might surprise cavalry.

Without seeing this map in action, i think if people will camp the hills next to bridge heavily. But nevertheless i would like to see this map in the action.
GOOD JOB!

looks good, only thing in my opinion is that the bridge could be a bit to small for 2 big armys facing each other.
maybe its ok, looks good though.

Thanks for the comments, I'll fix those tomorrow.

Yeah, but the thing is that the river is not deep and it's easily crossable, so everyone aren't suppoused to go trough the bridge anyways, if there's a lot of people crossing the river same time :D Also you can go the way south of the lake, so not everyone gonna go the bridge way anyways.

Looks good. Will take a look when you updated it. If you want the map to be played on officials servers you'll need to post it in the submission thread: http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,14303.0.html

Happy mapping.

Added to the map to the EU1 rotation.

Some notes:

(click to show/hide)

Don't get sloppy on the coloring. You can always use 'earth' as a base layer then start working you way up with pebbles. Turn weight and hardness to .20 or below, with a small brush and then add the pebbles. You'll get the best terrain result with layers upon layers (just like regular coloring).

(click to show/hide)

When you are done, look over the map for any floaty stuff.

(click to show/hide)

Put barriers everywhere. People will just go around instead. Just assume everything is abusable.

Overall, good job with your first map.
