Title: New Patch and XBows
Post by: Helrekkr on January 05, 2011, 08:25:03 am
So, since I'm at work now and I can't test until later tonight, but I was redoing my point allocation, I was wondering what those of you that have played so far think of XBows now ?

Does spending WPP in the XBow skill seem more meaningfull ?
Does NOT spending any WPP in XBows make them a lot worse than before ?
Any personal impressions of people that have played with xbows (and points in the xbow skill :P ) would be great .

I'm asking because I'd like to know what to spend my current WPP in first, 1h or xbow, and I couldn't see anything about xbows in the "patch notes" chadz provided earlier.

Yes, very. The reticule with 120 wpf seems like the old 200 wpf crossbow reticule.

Not really, but it makes them a bit pointless given they're expensive and damage is drastically cut down.

They're more accurate when you have crossbow wpf, but they are much less damaging - you'll require two hits to down almost everyone with top tier crossbows, and probably three with lower end ones. But it was a necessary balance measure, so.

Sounds good, I'll try XBow WPF spending first to check it out.

Currently using a Well Made Siege Crossbow with 82 WPF. Bit worried about my old 1h/shield combo though, might have to seriously downgrade my shield because it's 4 times as expensive :S (oh and my sword is 3 times as expensive too :( )

So it is worse than in betabetatests... still better than regular one, and may be worth retiring.

Unless repair cost is lowered that one would cost me on 2k or more alone.

Today I played my lvl 25 xbowmen a bit. All in all a dedicated crossbowmen makes fun now, you have much less onehit kills, but a superior accuary (you can aim for heads ) with an exceptional siege crossbow and medium armor. My char has 140 xbow wpf, which is a lot with the patch (next point costs me 8 points). So there were no points left  for any other weapons. I leveled up to 27 and spend 75 points in twohanded weapons to be able to defend myself.
Upkeep for the siege xbow is ~2k gold, so you can't wear any other decent gear. Siege Xbow + heraldic mail + longsword gives me a total loss of ~10k this day, but i think i just had bad luck and connection problems. If it is the same tomorrow i will go down to tunic over mail and bastard sword.

I played today with the well made siege xbow, studded leather, leather boots, leather gloves, bardiche.

Gained ~12k gold :o

It's quite fun :)

After trying ranged weapons, I have to admit they are so OP in cRPG. The difference between killing somebody with sword and...say.. with xbow is like the difference between knife and AK 47.

17,477 (Siege Crossbow) * 5% (Upkeep cost) = 874 Cost per repair

That's cheaper than a horsemen pays for hes horse. Courser   19818, Sarranid Horse 23982.

I have in my possession a master-worked sniper crossbow and I rarely one-shot a person(excluding the occasional level 3 peasant that happens to wander in front of the target i am shooting at.). I have had strength builds in 40 body armor take 3 sharp steel bolts from that crossbow and live. Goretooth in his lordly black armor and strength build can take 3 easily (unless shot in the head). I think the crossbow is fairly balanced. Throwing is not however and I think that issue will be addressed. If anyone claims my crossbow is overpowered, I would like to ask them to remember the sniper crossbow BEFORE this last patch. (My sniper was master-worked then as well. The heavy crossbow then, did more damage then my master-worked sniper does now.)
