I responded to a thread not long ago regarding a player who mentioned that a player "forced an overhand" after he hit the guy, and got clubbed on the head and died. I didn't think much about it. Figured a chamber, he didn't see it right, something.
Then it happened to me a couple times where I hit someone first, clearly. But they did not get any interrupt at all and just completed their swing and 1-hit me. I thought maybe I had whiffed the first time, but the second I knew that I didn't. Still, I wasn't sure there is something going on out there. I don't melee much.
Then tonight, Eyebeat had the same thing happen to him and mentioned it. He hit someone, they didn't get interrupted and he got killed (or hit, whichever).
What's going on? Is this related to weapon weight? Power Strike? Amount of damage done? Lag? Was there a change to the game mechanics that led to this occurring (recently afaik).
Anyone else notice this? My concern with this is that if an Agility player cannot get an interrupt when hitting a Strength build, may as well not even try. The strength guy can just stand still with a swing cocked and wait till you come in to swing. Agi guy needs 4-5 hits, Str guy needs 1. Who wins every time do you think?

Are you sure that it's not a glance [maybe you didn't hear it]? I surprisingly hit a guy in the head with an overhead 8ps short sword and it glanced :|. I did not notice anything like this.

I have that too, sometimes, that I hit someone, immediately follow with another swing, but for some reason, the other dude hits me first.

I bet it's due to the weird new overhead hitbox that was implemented 2 or 3 patches ago.

3 patches ago we implemented magic, the weird new overhead hitbox was 4 patches ago, together with permadeath.

This sounds like yet another aspect of the phantom blow/block phenomenon. It started with the first patch after the upkeep patch - the one that brought in the half-swording animation. Sometimes attacks will go right through enemies doing nothing: you can tell a true phantom blow because you get absolutely no sound at all from it; no whoosh from a swung weapon missing, no character saying "Hunnh!" as with a wiff, no thud as from a glance, just silence.

i get more frustrated about hits that dont damage but interrupt enyway

Well, he has a point though, something is up with overheads...they sometimes come so fast you can't get a block up. Wasn't like this before.

Sounds like you're talking about those rare glances that just don't make any sense. I've bounced off of cloth and even unarmored heads before with 8 PS. It's rare, but it happens. When it does happen though it's freaking hilarious, so just laugh it off.
