Post here your favourite game music, music that triggers good memories and/or just sounds good.

A few personal choices, mostly from the 8- and 16-bit age.

From the PC Ultima 8 and the Fallout games have had the music that has made the greatest impression on me I think, Ultima for its magical and eerie 8-bit classical score and Fallout 1 and 2 for atmospheric industrial, tribal drums, barking dogs and sirens as the bombs fall:

Oh, I have a lot.

Total War stuff is more of less always awesome.
(I don't know what to pick really, basically the entire RTW-M2TW soundtrack, especially when you use Stainless Steel.
Also, the menu music of Napoleon:TW is amazing at least to me. It's very dark and moving.)

Hmm, what else.. Ah yes.

Divine Divinity, a quite underrated Diablo-esque RPG, has an AMAZING soundtrack, Kirill Pokrovksy did a great job on it, it makes the game 100% more enjoyable because of the atmosphere it creates. Again, I could youtubelink the entire OST, it's that good. Dunno if it's a good thing to do or not.  :)

It would take too long to actually go through the soundtracks and pick out my favorites.  Instead, I'll just list the games/series that produced the most memorable music for me.

Chrono Trigger
--Both Yasunori Mitsuda's work
The Legend of Zelda [all]
Icewind Dale [all]
Baldur's Gate [all]
Final Fantasy [Some, not all, had very good scores.]
DOOM [The leaked Doom was the first game I played on the PC.  The music is nothing special today, but in '92 it really got you into the mood to fight some demons.]

Doom was the first game I played with full PC speaker sound, the nice music is one thing but hearing the 3d sound of grunts and screams of your fallen comrades risen again and other gruesome space monsters around the corner was an impressionable experience to say the least  :)

Also, Cannon Fodder was the first Amiga game I played and which convinced me of Amiga's superior sound system, and like so many other games was such a disappointment when played on other platforms.This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiYuq6Ac3a0) intro song was made by one of the developers. 'Normal' music (as in not computer game music) was pretty much unheard of in a game at this time. Not to mention the sprite photographs in the video.

I tend to prefer the composed music in japanese games... Many western composers try to be too special, trap themselves into their subgenre and sometimes fail to make something that sounds good.

The game was really under-average, but hell the musics :shock: they largely compensated the dullness of everything else :D

Play the movies ;) It's amazing how they incorporated so much music to the film (was it like over 70% of time theres music on background), no wonder they got the oscars for soundfx, but it's not enough, Howard Shore deserves so much more. Btw. Bethesda copied Gondor theme to skyrim, you can hear it in some town can't remember what.

Ofcourse the "classic" TW soundtracks are gold. There's no competition, those are the best, Especially Rome. People say the first Medieval's soundtrack was great, I never played that game. Might listen to it someday.

Yeah I was about to edit to add Napoleon's one.

Btw, empire and nap are only good when we look at the main menu xD all the other soundtracks are quite meh tbh

That's why both are quite well placed in my "time spent listening to whatever intro music/time spent in game" ranking. I have to admit Skyrim is probably pretty high too, although I played a lot of it.

Only ones I played are 3 and 4, but they have awesome music..

My favourite piece in DMC 3 is the organ part of the main theme. I think you can hear it again somewhere in the middle of the tower. I liked pretty much all the other tracks, too :D They fit the action perfectly.
