The problem I have with the first song (and alot of gutteral metal in general) is thus:
1)  The drums are fast for sure, but it's just a blast beat from beginning to end.  No real technical ability, nor groove.  Get a double bass, learn to play it fast.  The end.
2)  The guitar is playing simple bar chords in drop tuning using a basic minor scale with alternate picking.  Meh
3)  It takes some amount of control to swap between gutteral screams and fry screams sure, however if you can't pick out a word besides "GROOAOOAR" then wtf is the point?

Granted when I was a kid I appreciated this kind of metal more before learning anything about music, and there are some death metal bands out there who genuinely have musical talent and put it into their music.  The guys above aren't it.

Better?  :D

Indeed!  Muchly!
See, variation in the drums and groove, diversity in the guitar riffs, and you can actually understand the vocalist at least in some parts of the song :)

Black metal wise, I prefer Bal-Sagoth (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j893OnQrd6w&feature=related).

Not entirely sure if you'd call them purely black metal though or what, but yeah.

Nile/Amon Amarth?

Well those are good but I was thinking more along the lines of Suffocation and their ilk

GWAR is still around. I saw them live in Indianapolis last year. It was a good show. Swashbuckle opened for them and had a better show, IMO.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzQkMzqivMY&feature=related (Scurvy Back, Probably my favorite song from that album)

Amon Amarth - Down the slopes of death

One of their best songs, imo.

Blah, Berzerker.. used to listen to that crap a lot..
Now I prefer music with a simple thing called "melody" better.  :)

Also these "Core" guys have nice concepts all the time, I like some of them, but they manage to fuck it up with those awful pig squeals and whining noises..

Listen to this, instrumental:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kMhdvUcs_4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kMhdvUcs_4)

It sounds cool, But naaah, they have to add the stupid "br00tal v0kalz", to mess everything up all the time.

There's the problem.

___core bands are just bastardized versions of real metal music.

Yeah, I know, but they can make nice songs.

At least these are more technical songs than;
GRAAAAH RAAAAAAH .... *snare snare* *double kickbass*
WEEEE WEEEE WEEEEEE

Metalcore
I dont think i have to say more.
Suffocation is a way better band, ty gorath  :D
If you want to listen to something melodic take Melodic Death Metal, like Dark Tranquility or Kalmah.

Do people seriously enjoy listening to shit like that? My god, that is the most terrible racket I have ever heard... I'm not even trolling this time.

Who are you trying to fool into actually believing you like that trash? I mean, do people really pretend to like that horrible music just to seem cool?

Sounds okay, but I heard so many breakdowns in the last years, they just seem to sound pretty much the same every time now.

Why nobody ever posted a video of Kataklysm? Now that's Death Metal at it's finest from modern days. (Suffocation is pretty old after all. ;) )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mafVNsNkg3I (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mafVNsNkg3I)

Then there's All Shall Perish... Core-influenced, but still some heavy shit imo.

Don't worry, I don't listen to crap like that all the day. Melody and feel > Breakdowns, and screamo crap.
Sometimes I want to listen to a song like this, but it gets boring and I go back to my all time favorites.

Yeah, same here. It'll get boring after some time.

Lansamur Kataklysm is great but only the old albums, dont like their newest stuff much.
Try Mokoma or Obscura, both awesome bands.

Most of the stuff here is way too hard for me. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned In Flames yet though, now that's some good melodic death metal, even with their newer stuff being a bit meh.

Wow that song rocks, up until 29 seconds.

I really tried to appreciate this stuff, but this genre is just not for me.
