Title: Thrown/1h/shield-build
Post by: Goeasy on March 11, 2012, 04:45:03 pm
Why hello thar. I am a newbie to this c-rpg, and I am currently trying to set up a build maining 1h/shield, with thrown weapons as a sidearm. My current setup for this is;
Strength: 21
Agility: 15
Hit points: 68
Ironflesh: 6
Power Strike: 7
Shield: 5
Athletics: 5
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 0
Power Throw: 4
Weapon Master: 5
One Handed: 142
Two Handed: 1
Polearm: 1
Archery: 1
Crossbow: 1
Throwing: 60

So what I'm wondering is, how much profiency is required in 1h to be able to compete in duels, and is there any point in having this thrown skill at all?
My plan is to go for 2x heavy throwing axe + huskarl + 1h, and then some heavy armor.

Straight from my clan thread. You put WAY too little wpf in throwing. You won't be able to pick up your weapon, or really do any damage. PT reduces wpf and so does armor. You can move points around if you feel like.

HUSKARL:  A well rounded foot soldier utilizing his namesake shield
Strength: 21
Agility: 15
Hit points: 64

Skills to attributes: 2

Ironflesh: 4
Power Strike: 7
Shield: 5
Athletics: 4
Power Throw: 4
Weapon Master: 5

One Handed: 123
Throwing: 98

Sweet, that was pretty much exactly the answer I was looking for! Thank you.
Imma go huskarl on their ass.

Level 30 (4 420 577 xp)
Strength: 21
Agility: 15
Skills to attributes: 2
Power Strike: 7
Shield: 5
Athletics: 5
Power Throw: 7
Weapon Master: 5
One Handed: 100
Throwing: 124

This is my current build. The damage from the throwing is almost as much as pure throwers and the melee damage almost the same as normal shielders. The only thing you lack is the 10HP from IF, but that's the trade off of this hybrid build. Works pretty well. 100wpf is more than enough for fighting with a 1hander. There are some of the more advance moves that are more difficult than usual, but you can still do them. The 124 throwing wpf also makes me able to have some armour too. I run around in Blue Kettle Helmet, Blue Tunic Over Mail, Mail Chausses and I still have enough wpf for the 7 PT.

Thanks for yet another awesome reply! Although I would personally prefer going heavier on 1h, due to the strict limitations on ammo with thrown weapons.

Although Huscarl is great shield, try using heavy round, so you can have 3 stacks of throwing.  2 stacks of axes, shield & 1 8ammo throwing weapon like daggers/stars/darts.  I almost always carry a stack of Daggers (NOT KNIVES) to combat low armor opponents that are fleeing or xbows reloading.  Daggers also do in a pitch vs unarmored cav and annoying horse archers/bows.  Anyone that isnt wearing mail armor on a horse that is charging you can be killed with a throwing dagger.

For you non-Vikings out there, I would say the 4pt stars are on par with throwing daggers.  Lower damage but their firing rate & missile speed is so fast you'll be able to hit targets easier and get more headshots.

Remember that glove weight is increased by 8x and reduces throwing WPF, so if you want max damage & accuracy wear leather gloves.  Also dont go above 2 weight on your helm as its weight is 6x.  Body armor you can usually get up pretty high, we frequently go around in about 15 weight body armor.

So what you're saying is that you usually don't bring a normal 1h, and just toggle the thrown weapons? Or doesn't the heavy round shield take an inventory slot at all?

I use a 1h weapon myself, but if you want to do even more throwing you could just save your last axe for melee, its fairly decent.

I see. Well I'm gonna go for a 1h + 2 thrown + a heavy round shield then, methinks. Haven't really noticed that the huskarl actually takes up 2 slots.

EDIT: Thanks by the way! Awesome to get some help from people who know this shit :>
