Title: Heirloomed quarterstaff
Post by: Torp on March 04, 2011, 08:46:08 pm
hey, does anyone have any experiences with a heirloomed quarterstaff?

im planning on heirlooming a quarterstaff and going peasant style next gen, but i'd like to know if you guys have any experiences with a balanced quarter staff vs heavily armored enemies?
does it do damage, does it atleast interrupt their attacks, or does it just glance and leave helpless when the flamberge cuts my face in half?
i know it will be a big advantage to aim for the head, but is it 100% necessary vs. guys in black armor and milanese, or can they be killed with body hits?

btw, im gonna go with this build:

Level 30 (4 420 577 xp)

Strength: 18
Agility: 21
Hit points: 59
Converted: 8
Ironflesh: 3
Power Strike: 6
Shield: 0
Athletics: 7
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 0
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 7
One Handed: 1
Two Handed: 1
Polearm: 156
Archery: 1
Crossbow: 72
Throwing: 1

thx for your comments

Every heirloom adds one damage iirc. That's it, doesn't almost matter.
It doesn't glance often at least vs. normal armor, but you have to make many hits. Against heavy armor you can often go for the feet since many people don't armor them well, in fact I think that's better than head as far as glances are concerned. Spamming is possible, but stay the hell away from good shielders, you are never going to make a dent in a shield and they will wait for their opportunity.

Against decent players you will fail anyways, using a quarter staff needs lots of blocktraining and even more important the timing of the attack.

I used a fully heirloomed quarterstaff quite extensively before the big patch, and had little trouble against anything but the best shield users and Goretooth's lordly black plate.  You're still going to be at a disadvantage against most people (especially those with good connections) but it's totally doable.

At a PS 6 and blunt damage 22 you should be fine with fighting others, you will just have to hit them a lot.

Luckily there is a 104 speed on that quarterstaff so that should be fine.

I use an heirloomed Iron Staff and have no issue (27 blunt swing, 29 blunt thrust).  Speed is only 99 though.

The reason why I believe the quarterstaff would be fine, is I see some high level players using the Practice Two Handed sword just fine and it has a lower blunt damage.

Dyr and Bigsandwich are their names, but they are NA players so you might have never seen them.

I want hierloomed one also, awesome for peasant roleplay ;)

but I might just go for sniper instead since they are get such a good bonus.

I'd go fore more PS tbh ;) I use quarterstaff on my 9 ps crusher and its quite fun.
