There is a rather large variety of weapons I see used in cRPG. Some are also never used at all.
Simple question (well 2 questions.). Which weapon(s) do you use and why?
I've been trying lots of weapons recently and I personally currently use the Long Hafted Spiked Mace because it has fairly good range and damage (especially since it deals blunt damage). I also like the odd knockdown I get.
This thread helps me understand why certain people use the weapon they do. It hopefully will help other people as well.
-
I use a torch.
Because it hides the flamberge that I hide in my cone hat.
-
Lord Soth uses a shield and sword because, well, Soth did use that, and he also uses a spiked mace because it looks cool.
Xocoyol uses a warbow because it is a damn good bow for my playing style. He also uses a Katana because with 1wp left to spare for melee I need a fast weapon (And with 7PS and 30 STR I can appreciate the damage behind the thing too!).
My Cav guy uses a variety of weapons for experimentation, simply because he is experimenting on what feels the most natural for me (Though I only one one horse, so it can be a wee bit difficult for tests).
My Thrower guy (Castiel_Komnenos?) uses a ... Short Broad Sword iirc because it looks like the closest fit to a Roman Spatha (Gladius was an early weapon, a legionnaire later switched to using a Spatha as history progressed). The sole reason is that he is again a theme character. Throwing Spears and Throwing Lances will be used until I decide which fits my theme better. I also use Rocks because it is hilarious to dismount a guy from a horse with one, as well as a good way to get the gold for those ludicrously expensive Throwing Lances.
My pokey guy uses a warfork because the concept amuses me and because a sorcerer suggested it to me, though that may change.
-
Long Espada Eslanova with a pike
Good stab reach and speed, also, stab.
-
My main uses an italian sword. I like how it looks and it also has decent length and pierce.
-
12 Jarids and a shield.
Because throwing lances suck on accuracy and range and you get half as many.
-
elite scimitar, because thats what balb used.
-
Sarranid cavalry sword and a heavy lance. Horseman char in this generation.
-
The shielder uses a wide range of weapons, sarranid cav being an old favorite while side sword (stabbeh) and a loomed warhammer (34b) are the current ones being tested. The long espada, italian sword, iron axe and the list goes on with viable one-handers. After all, the weapon doesn't matter all that much once you go above the peasant items. 30+ cutting or 25+ piercing and you can get away with anything.
-
Longsword, with two hands ... fast and light
And the Beck de Corbin ... short say, deadly and brutal ... yay! Violence against Tincans!
Pike ... epic range and good pierce-dmg, beat the shit out the horsies!
-
I favour the iron mace, italian sword, broad one-handed battle axe, and steel pick on my one-hander and the langes messer, longsword, katana, and elegant poleaxe on my two-hander.
I like both the italian sword and langes messer for style more than anything else, and the rest are for overall effectiveness.
-
Battlefork (HOBOFORK!) on my shield/spear/thrower, Iberian mace (it looks neat, and it's very rare to see) on my shielder, Daodao on my 2 hander, and Studded Warclub/Strongbow on my archer.
-

battle fork is ugly and pathetic.
Go with military fork instead, it has much more style
-
bec de spam and pike...cos i can
-
Miaodao, Great Long Axe
Blazing fast speed on the blade, and sic damage on the polearm vs turtles
-

You're so wrong! Battle fork is stylish! :)
-
Tempered Katana : good cut damage, great speed and lots of style
-

masterwork katana!
an next gen im gonig with balanced quarter staff
-
"What Weapon Do You Use?"
I'm gen 2
-
Well, weapons for men... Long Maul, Axe(s), Heavy Spears...
Katana? Hello, if I want easy mode I play single player...
-
I use a morningstar, which is not very common but it works for me. I'm horrible at judging distance so longer weapons don't work for me. The great maul is just TOO short and slow for me. Moringstar is the right length for how I play and it breaks shields. The downside is its unbalanced.
I also use heavy throwing axes when I am a thrower. I use them over jarrids because I can see the path of the axe and it makes such a satisfying thunk. They also break shields nicely.
-

you say katanas are easymode and suggest... LONG MAUL!?
the ultimate easimode long crushthrough spamming weapon... good job
-
mighty GLA for the lulz

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA..oh wait...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
-
Masterwork Longsword - it fits my obsessive hybridization, my 2h of choice bar none
Heavy Throwing Axes - style, thunking noise they make when they hit
Heavy Lance on horseback
Destrier is my horse of choice, again because it is balanced for all horse roles
Sniper Crossbow for crossbows, Longbow when on archers (I'm a damage guy with my ranged over ROF)
Bec de Corbin or Pike for polearms, though I'm not a huge fan of the category, honestly
Don't really have a 1h to put on here

BlackMilk, Torp:
Clan/nicks: Ninja
... someone is mad?
-
BlackMilk, Torp:
Clan/nicks: Ninja
... someone is mad?
no, we're just saying that spam is not a viable playstyle and long maul is the ultimate easy-mode
-
1h Master worked spammitar - Like the curvyness
2h Long sword - Style I guess
PA Long hafted blade - More style makes me feel like Guan Yu
xbow Heavy - Faster reload then the slow as shit sniper
Archer strong bow - Idk cuz I suck at archery?
cav heavy lance - longer and pointer
Courser - fastest horse
-
Great sword...because it's great.
-
great maul because its great.... na just because its fun for huscarl shielders to rage at me XD
-
The womans vagina. Cuz im awesome like that. And henry the horse my charger cuz combined makes god.
-
Masterwork Nordic Short War Sword
cuz im the only person in this whole mod who uses it lol
plus its short and teaches me position and manuevering
-
Side Sword cuz it's op.
-
War spear, cos it is alot harder to use than a 2h sword.
-
Poleaxes. I really like halberds, but the actual halberd is useless.
Also; Italian sword, and board shield on my 1h dude.
-
I use a modified Swiss army knife that I bought, it has a Longsword, Poleaxe, Staff, Flamberge, Elite Scimitar and many other weapons, because I'm sick of just sticking to one build, I hybrid and collect weapons like I have obsessive compulsive disorder.
-
Atm Tempered Niuweidao, great 1h weapon (35c swing dmg atm and no thrust, for me that is big plus) for 1h ninja builds (without shield).
Also, if i will be ever shielder, i will use it.
Style is important, too.
-
Military Cleaver.
Nothing elegant here. It is a slow, brutish weapon, and that fits my style just fine. 39 cut fully heirloomed means, if I can get a hit in, it should hurt most anyone. It's also a Rhodok only weapon in Native, which fits my theme.
Heavy Crossbow.
Strong enough to kill all but the most heavily armored players in 2 hits or (rarely) less, and just fast enough to get a last second point blank shot right after reloading. I do love those point blank shots.
-
I use the claymore. Because it looks awesome, it does a lot of damage and doesn't look silly like the flamberge
-
Knightly arming sword and knightly heather shield...
Because I'm an idiot and I choose the theme with the most utterly underpowered possible equipment (and because I want to fit in my theme too).
-
The Heavy Bastard Sword.
Mostly for style, I concede the longsword is the superior weapon but it doen't have the awesome scabbard and I have always used the HBS as my primary 2h since the original mount and blade. What makes this weapon even more awsome is that it matches my...
Long Dagger.
Again for style, its look and sheath both match the HBS and look pure win when worn together. Not to mention the occasional hilarious peasant stabbings it allows.
I've also found this combo to not be very common at all!
-
Knightly Arming Sword isn't that bad...but the shield is, compared to Huscarl's...
-
Now i use mainly my pole/shield char.
He uses war spear and shield in groups .... but i experiment on using spear or even shortend spear sometimes , cause they are faster. Don´t know which one i should heirloom.
SOmetimes i put away the shield ( if not in bigger groups ) and try my luck on 1 on 1 .... but i am really slow .... i think everyone is faster than me ;-) Without long mauls maybe ;-)
Next time i think more agi and wpf for the next gen.
Therefore i use the shortened spear sometimes , which is a bit faster than the other ones .... i´m not so good at blocking.
If anyone who uses spear mainly has an advice for me which one i should heiloome , shortened spear , spear , or war spear .... i would be greatful
Don´t know how much agi i should use .... to be fast enough in fights, and how much speed the weapon should have with/without shield.
But i really like the piercing damage of the spears ...
The other chars :
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Also i experiment with my 2h char , Geat Sword at the moment , which is a good balance of price , cut/pierce/range/spd and style .....
--------------------------------------------------------------------
- .... my 1h/shield char : Italien Sword cause of style/spd/range/damage ( pierce and cut ) , Fighting axe .... good range/spd/damage against shielders , and round cavalry shield or huscarl , just looking if there are many axes on server , or not ;-) Round cavalry shield feels a bit faster with 103 spd .... don´t know if its true , or just my imaginary ...
-
Military cleaver, Heavy heater shield and Pike
The cleaver was for its style at first, but now, its an excellent weapon in both battle and siege. High damage ftw
Heavy heater shield because it gives me the necessary speed to use my cleaver efficiently, the huscarl doesn't.
Pike because i never know when the next horseman is approaching.
-
MW Heavy lance. On horse, goes without necessary explanation. On foot, cause it's relatively rare and some people either underestimate it's speed (slightly faster than a plain old heavy lance cause of the heirloom) and it's range (not many people are used to fighting against it on foot). It's more..."sporting" too, I guess. And goes with the "Oberyn" roleplay, for those who've read George RR Martin's series XD. Not to mention I like not having to pay upkeep for yet another weapon. The horse is expensive enough.
-
Heavy lance for my main cavalry char... derp. It's slower than other lances, however it's range and damage MORE than make up for that. On foot I've been experimenting with warspear vs. short spear. Warspear does alot more damage, but shortened spear is much faster.
I do not suggest you heirloom the shortened spear Sean. Yes, it is fast, but I find it doesn't do nearly enough damage. It's also really...short. I have yet to try out the regular spear, but perhaps it will be a good compromise between short spear and warspear.
My archer/1hand (0wpf in 1hand weapons atm....) uses whatever 1h weapons look cool. It's not like I can survive a fight with 0wpf in any melee weapons, so I just pick cool things like the pick, light one handed ax, italian sword, and stick.
-
Spending some time as a thrower - heavy throwing axes because lances are meh. When out of ammo, whatever is lying around - my best round of late came with a chipped flamberge.
-
Atm Tempered Niuweidao, great 1h weapon (35c swing dmg atm and no thrust, for me that is big plus) for 1h ninja builds (without shield).
Also, if i will be ever shielder, i will use it.
Style is important, too.
Exactly. My archer/shielder hybrid uses it as well. One additional reason: I can not get the freaking control of my swings right, so if a weapon has stab/thrust like sidesword or katane, I always tend to stab when I actually want to do an overhead. Niuweido does not have stab, so problem solved... ;-)
Sideefeect: the weapon is underestimated by most players, until their throat realizes that little curved thing does the same damage as the standard katana. :)
Will heirloom it again, just love that blade.
And of course I use the warbow, but only because the longbow sucks so much in the current version of the mod.
Meanwhile it has become a "Fine Warbow", and starts to behave like I would expect it from the longbow.
Great weapon, and fairly accurate.
-
I've always used the steel pick and the like.
-
Heavy lance and glaive.
I don't see many people here who use a glaive (no one at all as far as I can tell), but its quite nice.
I like the looks of it and it has surprising length. It also deals quite a lot of cut damage. The main drawback would be the speed,
but I never get outspammed or anything and can duel with it just fine.
-
farmers sickle cause its all about style :P
-
Longsword(Good, all-around weapon), Morningstar(damn you shielders) and a pike to deter cavalry... encompassing all I need.
-
Masterwork Battle Fork. Masterwork Awlpike. Masterwork Pike. Because stabs are ridiculously fun.
-
fISTS. drunken rage destryoers
-
Pike cause I hate horses. Also my build is support only. I cant do shit on my own even with a proper build
-
bec de spam and pike...cos i can
Yes facehug and spam you're way to the top , plus you have to block at least once to get in range against 2H so you don't look like a total noob.
-
If 1h it's Nordic champions sword, good reach and cut damage.
2h it's heavy lance, cus its practical on horse and long hafted blade because it's quick and sexy on foot.
-
Long Iron Mace cos it's an antimy old friend weapon, can kill lolstabbers and pickgod 1h users fast.
-
Langes Messer.
It's one of two one handed weapons with a second handed mode and the fighting axe sucks.
Only since it's bugged.........
Side sword
Bastard sword
And a pike as backup.
-
I use the masterwork war spear. It's pretty long and fast but doesn't do a lot of damage.
-
Master work sniper crossbow (HOHOHOOO) and glaive. Was experimenting with quite a few polearms like bec, awlpike, long awlpike but ultimately I'll stick with glaive probably. As Tommyyy mentioned, the only downside is the speed, and since I have only 80ish wpf in polearms, I find myself sometimes spammed when trying to overhead, but otherwise it's fine ^^ The length is cool and damage is nice.
-
Large Bag of Fine Stones. Used for both throwing & melee because it is hilarious. This gen I even went 4 riding/2 HA to ride around on a courser pelting people with stones AND Bumb-bashing people with them is the best mode of killing ever. See also: It can't block so I am forced to chamber. P.s. Stones are still inferior to everything at 3rd heirloom.
Khyber knife - Because it can't manual block, so I am forced to chamber everyone. If only the Long dagger, dagger, knife, Khyber knife and etc weren't all gimp for damage Along with not being able to manual block. I'd love to see them do the damage comparable to the rest of the 1handers rather than be inferior in every way.
-
Heavy Goedendag 1731
weight 3
requirement 9
spd rtng 95
weapon length 117
swing damage 27, blunt
thrust damage 24 pierce
Can't use on horseback
Knockdown
soon to be improved.
edit: I see you want a reason, i'll give you 3.
1.It smashes fase
2.It is pretty much a spike on a club
3.spike.. on.. a.. club...
edit2:
also it really doesn't matter what weapon you use at ps10 unless your going for gay with a crush thru or some shit.
-
Pitch fork, for the hilarity of it... same for the torch which actually looks pretty cool (and magically attracts arrows)
-
Miaodao for the style,.... 8-)
-
Military Cleaver/Langes Messer: Fits my theme, regardless of stats
War Cleaver/MorningStar: Fits my theme, regardless of stats
Sword of War/Longsword: Statwhoring
Swiss Halbard/ Fister/ GLA: Fits my theme, regardless of stats
Heavy X-Bow: For operations.
-
Masterwork Long Hafted Blade
Main reason: Only good weapon that can slash from horse...
Fit my samurai theme...
Since my destrier upkeep take all the money, I can only carry one weapon.
So having a good all around polearm is nice.
:)
-
Im form Australia were the skills are superior(not joking) and the community smaller
Owens: bec de corbin, HEAVY long maul(heir loomed), glaive military scythe, glaive, shortened spear, pike, old board shield, the cheap LHSM, throwing knives and some goofy polearm axe thing
Jumping Bean: Great sword for stab, Heavy iron mace (for stab), Sarranid battle axe, bastard sword spiked mace
If a player is half decent they can avoid a long maul so easily the weapon is a joke and spam is a myth so katanas and other fast weps are not OP, most fast weps shortened spear, quarter staff and so on do low damage so its balanced and anyway if someone has more wpf they should get more hits in and spend less time blocking its CRPG not chess.
-
Masterwork War Spear
because I don't actually want to kill people.
-
Pitch fork, for the hilarity of it... same for the torch which actually looks pretty cool (and magically attracts arrows)
I make a point to never shoot a player with a torch unless he/she is on a horse or trying to club my brains out and within a few meters.
I like seeing it, especially in the night battles or in fog (yes, I am simple minded and easily amused).
-
Masterwork sidesword. Just because I can piss people off with it.
Battlefork. Just because people think it's a noobweapon and underestimate it's damage.
-
I use Hatchet, because style is important. :P
-
Warcat= Strong Bow w/ bodkin arrows: Decent speed and damage and able to use from horseback
Heavy Lance: Good way to quickly take out people not paying attention and is a good melee support weapon
Village_Elder= Stones: Original weapon for good roleplay, use to use it with a staff for defense.
Throwing Lances: Their slow, low range and heavy damage make a good, fun counter to the stones and they have a staff-like appearance. + it causes rage, and who doesn't like pissing off tincans that want to be invincible.
Merchant_of_Tulga= Katana: Fun way to get kills and duel. Very easy to block with and allows for spamming attacks on slower opponents.
Messenger_Boy= Horses: Its an all riding build, so I use whatever horse I can get a hold of to bump people down. I occasionally poke them with my pitchfork as well.
The_Spainish_Inquisition= Torch is the only thing so far, might go get more strength and pick various things up so that NOBODY expects what weapon I'll be using.
Guild_Master= Elite Scimitar: A good weapon with a shield. Don't play this alt much though.
-
mw long hafted blade, becouse im a helicopter
-
Mostly great knife or broad short sword, because i like the look.
-
Burr1ck: 2h hammer, fun, challenging weapen and underused.
Stimpy: Awlpike, fun, challenging weapen, great support and underused.
-
Normanne: He uses a lot of weapons. There's a Bardiche, a Mallet, a spiked Mace and a few twohanders (2h Sword, Heavy Great Sword, Highland Claymore). There is also a pike, cause he was a pikeman in his former life. He was usually backstabbing skilled people, who fought bravely against dozen of enemys, with a smile in his face.
Mallet and Mace are for fun, the Bardiche is for moneymaking and the 2h swords are for serious combat. Yes - the Pike is for backstabbing.
Laufknoten: She also uses quite a lot of weapons but most of the time a War Axe and a sniper Xbow. There's also a light lance for mounted combat, a bec de corbin and a pike. She uses the bec de corbin if the slowmo-War Axe isn't enough and the pike for...backstabbing. If she doesn't want to pay to much upkeep, she uses a light xbow instead of the sniper one.
-
Archer - Masterwork Khergit bow
1h - masterwork elite scimitar
2h - had loads of fun with all sorts of 2h but my favs were Morningstar, Great Axe, and Spamberge
Polearms - hafted spikes mace, war spear, bec, there are so many fun ones
-
The_Little_Hobbit:
only uses Nodachi, because I like the range and can't fucking handle stabbing. Will probably switch to Spamberge now.
The_Crushing_Hobbit:
only uses Long Maul, for obvious reasons. FUN!
Sir_Marblecake:
uses Heavy Lance while mounted to do general hit and runs and a Jousting Lance for when a shielder requires punishment. Don't know if that's actually effective, but that's what I do. Once dehorsed, I switch to one of 'em heavy polearm axes.
Plumbers_Mario:
Throwing axes. Because they were out of fireballs.
Azincourt:
Should be an archer, but cbf at the moment.
-
Danish greatsword vs 2h/pole.
Great maul vs 1H - otherwise I find sword vs decent turtle a nightmare, cant seem to run round so I reckon turtle builds now include 2-3 points of athletics.
Bugger if you get caught with Maul vs 2h or pole though, so slow and just asking to get ranged spammed. Prefer to use the sword cos I like it. Did use Great Axe for ages then got pissed off with it cos it's owned by the 2h long great axe - which should have a secondary function.
