Title: Hoplite
Post by: FRANK_THE_TANK on March 06, 2012, 05:13:34 am
Vote away.

It would also be really helpful if you could put the reason for your preferences.

Why do I keep adding that o?

Warspear. Beast all around.

You can defend yourself against cav with shield, and have a lethal 1v1/group weapon when you take it off.

Ashwood Pike. Best for supporting allies with its range and its high damage for a hoplite weapon.

I use warspear, but i would say ashwoodpike is better because that reach is wonderful.

For a hoplite, reach > damage. The only reason you don't take the bamboo spear is the low damage.
The ashwood pike has both good damage and good reach, is decent without a shield and it's looks fit the hoplite theme perfectly.

Byrnie, barbutte, huscarl shield and ashwoodpike and you can rp a spartan all day :P

I love warspear and its usefull bt probably i am using that weapon for too long because i got serious problem when taking ashwood which is longer but slower. imho speed > reach > damage

I personally use the bamboo spear.  People underestimate you with it, and you can always switch off the shield to do real damage again.  The reach is amazing, and it's cheap.  Plus, in team battles, you can stagger your enemies at will without having to worry about actually killing any of your teammates if they jump in the way!

Cheap is the way of the hobolite.

War spear is good all around so I voted for that, but ashwood pike is a very nice weapon too, for me it's a toss up between them, comes down to preference.

War Spear. Ashwood. Military Fork.

Ashwood is strongest, longest, but slowest.
War Spear is in the middle.
Military Fork is weakest, shortest, but fastest. Hax.

Battle fork...Meh.

I've been using the Ashwood for what is now my 3rd or 4th gen. I would not, however, claim it is the best. This is a matter of opinion. Here is my breakdown of what hoplite weapon you should choose:

If you want damage, the Ashwood offers the best pierce. Throw a shield on and you're pretty much the best support clutch on your team.

If you want reach, the Bamboo offers the furthest range. This way you can hang back behind your teamates and still support with your pole stun.

If you want speed, the War Spear offers the quickest attacks. It's reach is low, but in times of dire need you can bench the shield and unlock an additional two directional attacks.

If anyone in here is looking for basic tips on how to play a good hoplite hit me up on steam @ Kreczor
