What do people think about the idea of making Arbalests non-sheathable, only able to fire from a stationary position, less expensive, and more precise?
-
That would make them even worse than they're now.
-
Bad bad idea. I just came back to my arbalest character after 6 months away and found its much harder to do well than it use to be. For gods sake don't nerf them anymore... They are plenty precise already, don't make them useless. If anything the whole rain effect on them desperately needs to go away. I mean why does the xbow, out of all the other weapons, have to suffer and become shite every other map? Its not OP at all as is, there are not tons of full xbow characters around. Please get rid of the rain effect! Not needed at all for balancing.

Non sheatable, 24str requirement, 3 slot, only able to fire from stationary position, more expensive, really sow and less precise, bit little more damage - just add another 15-30 pierce damage.
And 12 kg weight
Fair enough.

maybe then i think 2h swords and all 2h poles shoud also be unsheatheble? they all are harder then arbalest)
and if it will be stationary it will give only 1 way to effectively use it, camp some roof.

Can you tell me how you can «sheat» this weapon.
Also check, how many backup weapons this arbalesters have.
-
then explain to me how you can sheath 2h great sword or some poleaxe? and also have some xbow on back or shield or some spear?
-
Swords

Check man with red baldric on this picture. This is for onehanded long cavalry swords or two handed greatswords that CAN be used from horseback.

Can't find good source about poleaxes right now, but many not really «long» polearms like Bec or Halberd has simple system of carrying, rather like rifle sling.
And yes, you can't sheath weapons longer than 2m, you can only carrying this weapon on your shoulder.

It is indeed interesting, the whole debate about what can and can't be carried in certain ways IRL, and what would be unwise balance wise. But I do think you can consider the heavy crossbow to be a crossbow that is purely stronger than a "standard" hand-drawn crossbow, and that there is a niche for a physically stronger and more accurate "siege" crossbow with movement penalties as previously described. I wouldn't change the slots to 3 slots because 2 slots would allow you to carry a sidearm one handed sword, or extra bolts and a 0 slot sidearm. it may sound like fantasy lazy non-contributing pleb to say that the arbalest would need a new model and animation to reflect these changes and not actually have a placeholder made, but it's food for thought for anyone who likes the idea and actually has modelling ability.
-
Technically, you can have three slot xbow, pack of bolts, 0 slot shield and dagger. Balance wise and historically correct.
-
yea then you want so, i shoot 1-2 times per round from arbalest , if it is stationary i will be iimideatly shooted by enemys super accurate archers or lanced by cav, or i just drop my arb and - because i dont have any decent weapon i shoud... mmm run home maybe yes? it is the most stupid suggestion i have ever seen.
-
I'd like to see an additional weapon with this features, just for variation.
