Sometimes it just isnt fun playing random steppe or any other map large with only 20 people, or even a full server

It's never fun and I say this as a cavalry player.

I think it's fun and a good mix to have in the rotation. More so when it's 30v30 or more, but I get tired of being on battle servers and playing on city/town maps that look like they would be found in a strategus siege. It's a battle server, not a siege server...
random maps force people to use teamwork, and terrain or die. You can't crutch behind a wall or up against a fence.

What you call "teamwork" is what I call camping on a hill. Maps that support camping (Like all random maps) are horrible and should be removed since having to wait for minutes before actually being able to fight is terribly unfun.
Teamwork is going around as a group and supporting each other with a multitude of weapons, trying flanks and going for high priority targets ect, not all having to clump together in one spot in fear of cavalry raping you for both teams and then 90% of the time the team that decides to end the boring stalemate loses because attacking < defending.
I love maps that are more melee oriented because I do not see any advantage melee have over cavalry and to a lesser extent ranged except cramped fighting areas so maps that promote melee fighting through that are a good way to balance that out. I'm not saying every map has to be a city but I think every map should have an area that is good for melee fighting, like many of the village maps already have.

Plus nobody likes it when it decides to have the thickest of fog, and rain, on a huge random map where 80% of the time is spent finding each other and the other 20% is spending trying to kill everyone before it forces a draw

I already made this post in the official map feedback thread, so everyone just go emptyquote me

I like the open maps. It's not just camping, people have been working together much more. You can't expect everyone to instantly undertake teamwork, it needs some time. Leave the open maps.

The gladiator maps in like arena and the ones on the melee EU server would be pretty awesome.

Arena is the best map in the game and would be even better if the 2 towers were removed on either side.

I really like how the weather affects how maps are played. Only downside I see is that some people can join late and instead of having 20% visibility from fog, they can see 100% normal.
