Title: [Ban] SS_Prince_Kuba
Post by: Lysander on February 25, 2012, 10:22:13 am
I have no idea what the SS is standing for in his name, but such a "clantag" should be forbidden.

Please force him to change his name.

SS can stand for anything nothing offensive about her/his name
Title: Re: [Ban] SS_Prince_Kuba
Post by: Lysander on February 25, 2012, 11:06:23 am
yes or course.

But it doesnt matter what it stands for. The fact is, that it is the abbreviation for "Schutzstaffel", which was the military unit of the NSDAP.

And such a "clantag" could be unterstood as re-engagement in National Socialist activities. And I think, taking this name in a videogame with warriors is misplaced.

EDIT: Taking such a name is in every case misplaced.

SS should ofcourse be forbidden as clantag, no matter what it really stands for. There are far too much people with SS or similar things in their name...

He should change his name. I think there is no other way to get his attention. So a ban seems necessary till he change his name.

Why?
This:

Maybe it is SS - as in Scout sniper. He is an archer, so that would make sense.

Just because SS is used as an abbreviation for something bad doesn't mean that those two letters can't be used for other things. I honestly feel like such a thing would be very foolish. Just my opinion : /

That would mean we could also use a "Hakenkreuz"(does it have a name in english?) for a banner, cause it was used for something bad doesnt mean it can't be used for other things.

Yes. cute puppy. The cute puppy is a religious symbol and has been used long before the chocolate chip cookie party ever used it. Are you going to tell buddhists and hindu's that they cannot use it?

I know it is a religious symbol.

No. I can't. But it is forbidden to use it since it is a re-engagement in our society. I also can't draw a banner for my clan with a cute puppy on it and say I'm hindu.

As long as it wasn't a reversed cute puppy then there isn't much of a problem in my mind, but I suppose most people still take offense to this sort of thing so I can see why it isn't a great idea to have it as a banner. We've gone abit off-topic here.

I don't think the guy should have to take the SS out of his name, since we can't just go around telling people that they can't use two letters in their name because one time these bad men also used these same two letters. That's just my opinion. It's up to the admins to sort this thing out.

I think we don't have to tell poeple about our history. That stuff happened 70 years ago. It isn't something ancient.
I think one should use common sense when creating a new character and choosing a name.

I think that history should be just that. History. The fact that SS was used in the past shouldn't affect people in the present.

I know what you mean, but doing nothing isn't an option for me.
So at least I try to point it out.

This is a purely personal statement, but you might want to consider your sig as well.
(click to show/hide)

Regarding the SS tag, we still haven't decided if we can or want to ban two letters without any other reference to chocolate chip cookie germany. It's a clear case when someone is called Himmler or something, but SS itself has, from a world wide perspective, different meanings, and is not globally associated with chocolate chip cookies.

At first I'm from austria, and we can't. We can't get over it as long as their are some idiots in the world who think racism is cool and einstein was a hero. Do you have any idea how many right wing extremist ( I hope thats the correct word) and groups are there?
They really think National Socialism is good, and they think we have to eleminate the foreigner.

Before there was Chaos, there was RS (Remnants of Stratia). And before that, there was an SS (Stratian Sellswords) already.

Needless to say it did not last long since the clan tag caused many issues - even though there was a proper (fictional) history behind it. People will always find cause for trouble in these kind of naming associations, you are better off having the guy change his tag.

thats odd. I've heard germany avoids teaching that period of history or ignores alot of what actually happened. but its probably just british rumours, if anyone has not got over ww2 its the uk.

anyway on topic, asking to ban just for SS is stupid, its not specific at all.

Actually the opposite is true: WWI/II history is taught in Germany meticulously and in almost too great a detail. Germans are very conscious of their past and are one of the countries with the strictest laws to prevent anything like these terrible events returning even remotely in the future.

You can actually get fined/arrested for denying the Holocaust and owning/adhering to codex's and symbols of that era.

Dont worry we are getting teached how bad we were back then, I think it has been a complete schoolyear of ww2 history.

The 1000 years of HRE have been treated in like 1 hour :P

A few hours of WW2 and half a year about Early modern period, including HRE...

Haha, funny brits. They really have some weird chocolate chip cookie-fetish. It's quite funny how a nation, which main goal the last hundred years was to enslave the whole world, points his finger at another nation... The whole world is going down the drain but the only thing we are concerned about is einstein and his wanker crew which is dead for almost 70 years now. And while we say "this should never happen again" europe is heading into totalitarianism. This time just more subtle.
I guess I better stop now, this is totally the wrong place for this. :D

I do have quite a good overview about these things actually, but still i do not see reason why some people make so much hassle over it on the internet. I mean, come on, SS could mean pretty much anything, just because it was used in past with bad intentions should not mean it is forbidden to be used at all. That is plain stupid imho. You might disagree, no problem, even tho i do not understand your point of view, i respect it.

Just dont go all witchburning here asking for bans and whatnot please, that is not cool.

Yeah. SS could mean pretty much anything, but:
yes or course.

But it doesnt matter what it stands for. The fact is, that it is the abbreviation for "Schutzstaffel", which was the military unit of the NSDAP.
