So i am hitting lvl 31 soon.
For the first time in my live, BTW.
And i just have no idea of what to heirloom.
Currently, i am playing Horse Crossbowman. I am preparing for changing class in next gen, probably melee.
I would be glad to heirloom weapon i want to use, but i have only 7(8 at 31) str atm and there is a couple of choices:
a) light crossbow, tho i am not sure if i will play horse crossbowman again.
b) Niwueidao, but im sure my next gen wont be 1h, maybe 3rd gen will be
c) war spear, but i am sure my next wont be a hoplite build, maybe 3rd gen will be
d) a horse, but i have no idea which one
Help me. If I would heirloom horse, i would take some "light" one.

What about becoming a 1hander?
Most swords have a strength requirement below 9.
You could go for the side sword, which seems to be very popular amongst 1handers (don't really know exactly how useful it is, 2handers only speaking).
-
Heirloom Courser.
Heavy Courser is a beast.
-
i you want to change build, go 2h or polearm next gen and nerf a 2h/polearm... just go 15-18 str instead of 7
-
If you can't choose Heirloom a piece of armor that you will always continue to wear. Chainmail gloves give a good balance of weight and defence plus you could always use that extra armor without having to wear that extra weight. That's what i'd do if i can't choose heirloom something I can/will always use(Armor)
-
8 strength is tough, but maybe look at good 1her swords, quarterstaff (fast knockdown), spiked mace (crushthrough, knockdown, 100 speed, 2her), or a horse (useful if you ever go any style of cavalry again).
-
Im sure i wont take side sword, i prefer higher swing dmg without any thrust, Niuweidao is good.
Maybe i will heirloom Niuweidao. i know one thing: i wont heirloom any 2h/polearm, because i cant lift any.
Or maybe arrows, if i will take archer char ever again...
-
Heirloom stones, thats what my next heirloom will be.
-
I was going to suggest bolts if you like the cross bow, but for an effective archer 2 heirlooms on arrows IMO.

And gen3 Niuweidao has what advantage over gen3 side sword?
-
No thrust. Thats the huge advantage. Also the style.

Lol how is the lack of thrust an advantage?
-
I dont like thrust. It is so easy to block, also 1h thrust isnt too long.
-
But think of the animation of 1h thrust.
A Weapon with 101spd 34cut 28pierce in Gen 1 Heirloom.
Do you really think you can block it´s thrust easy ? Or is this just an ironic joke ?
1 hand with over 100 speed is so fast , that you can´t think: " .... oh .... ah .... he´s trying to make a thrust .... haha .... ok .... i think i will downblock ... it´s so easy ... he never can hit me .... haha ".
And not only the thrust makes damage ...
Think of the 34 cut .... if the swing comes right .... maybe an overhead .... it makes ouch :-)
The biggest argument for the Sidesword is : it only requires 8 Str , and is one of the best 1h weapon. And if you only get to 8 str, which i think is really a bit too low by the way , this weapon is really a very very good choice ...
And i think heirloomed Weapons cost the same repair costs , as not heirloomed weapons.
And even if the 1h thrust isn´t too long , it´s range is 95. It is real nice for 1h.
Aaaaand : Niuweidao has exactly 1 cut damage more, than Sidesword ... wow .... but you can never use thrust .... that´s a big advantage .... ;-)
Think of it ;-) Dont´s forget the second advantage : Niuweidao is shorter .... ;-)

weight 1.5
requirement 6
spd rtng 101
weapon length 88
swing damage 33, cut
thrust damage 0 pierce
Gen1= 101spd 35cut
Gen2= 102spd 36cut
Gen3= 103spd 37cut
I just dont like thrusts. Also, it has only 6 req. And 35 cut at 1gen.
I want to make following build:
Level 30 (4 420 577 xp)
Strength: 6
Agility: 33
Hit points: 41
Converted: 8
Ironflesh: 0
Power Strike: 2
Shield: 0
Athletics: 11
Riding: 0
Horse Archery: 0
Power Draw: 0
Power Throw: 0
Weapon Master: 10
One Handed: 190
Two Handed: 1
Polearm: 1
Archery: 1
Crossbow: 1
Throwing: 1
With speed bonus and 35 cut and 2 power strike i wont be bouncing off too often. Also, it is perfect ninja build.
-
the throwing daggers of course
-
Ok ... i looked in the wrong line .... was looking to another weapon in the heirloome list , and watched on the wrong ... ok it has a little more cut. ( Edit Looked again .... it has really only 1 cut more than sidesword ;-) But go for it for the Ninja style and only 6 str req. it´s ok )
And ok .... if style is important to you .... what i can really understand , and you only want to go to 6 str ... ok .... go for it.
It´s a matter of taste ....
the most importand thing of all numbers and facts is : F U N ....
If it makes you fun to play so ..... go for it ! That´s why we play ..... have fun ! :-)

This.
But I just heirloomed my Niuweidao for the the second time, and I absolutely love it...in my opinion, best one-handed sword in the game. Just a thought. :)

+1. I use - on regular basis - a warhammer, side sword, nordic champion, various 1h axes, military cleaver, sarranid guard sword and niuweidao. All are ok, the last three are my favourite, but niuweidao is in standard eq. To be heirloomed (when I'm done with xbow). It is a bit short, unfortunately.
-
My best advice is not to limit yourself in future by heirlooming something based on your current strength requirement.
Honestly I think your strength is so low now that you haven't had much experience with other weapons or armor, and in your next life you may go 18 str and use something you decide you like a lot better than the niuweidao... In which case looming the niuweidao would be a waste.
If you enjoy cav and will be riding a horse in one of your next gens, it's never a bad idea to heirloom your horse. If you're 1h/shield, looming the shield is also a great idea. You get a big HP boost for the first heirloom.
-
i always have trouble deciding, so i usually end up heirloomning the weap i want to use next, and then i change my mind and heirloom something else next gen. That givs me a lot of balanced weapons, but well; first heirloom is usually the best
-
Already loomed Niuweidao, it is great for 1h ninja builds. Also i know from playing my shieldman alt that niuweidao is nice weapon for shielders, and i have 2 ways of going for 3rd gen now, as i am sure i WILL heirloom my Niuweidao again.
Great weapon.
