Strategus is a fun way to take the game to a new level, by incorporating castle's that can be captured and bringing more to planned battles. But what if there was a dedicated world server that contained all of the castles, full loot pvp, and the mechanics to build and restore villages/cities/castles walls and buildings?
I started this discussion earlier with some cRPG players, and many told me it wouldn't work. I think it can. Please reply with some feedback as to why it wouldn't work. Or if you like the idea and want to expand upon it please feel free to post more reasons for why it would be successful. I am willing to donate US Dollars for overhead costs associated with programming the client and server computer hardware.
This is my first post. I read the rules and feel this is appropriate to post here, if not please let me know and I'll move it or take it down.

Grey Order and Druzhina would exploit the shit out of it.

Aren't there enough generic MMORPGs with PvE already..?
-
this should be in the suggestions category and if you want this to be implemented you would probably have to do it yourself that's if the developers say you can of course :)

Try Darkfall, its exactly what you just described. It doesn't work for a variety of reasons including a terrible grind to be competitive endgame in character skills and a terrible dev team. Any type of pvp centered mmo that is full loot is going to be a niche game right off the bat. Most companies want to make a lot of money hence the theme park mmo domination. The only game on the horizon like what you are looking for might be ArchAge and supposedly Richard Garriot is trying to buy back the rights to UO and make a UO2.

Make Skyrim an MMO and add cRPG combat-style and leveling system. Boo-yah!
-
A MMORPG with the Mount&Blade combat system is not technically feasible.
-
Who cares if its possible!? We must do it anyways!
-
Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag.
That's pretty much why it won't work. I have suggested that the dueling servers should have a little PW-type atmosphere, though.
Nothing really stopping anyone from doing that. Just people to encourage the idea and someone to make the map/host the server.
-
So it would be like PW for straight people? One could only dream

Something would've to be dumbed down, in order to make it an MMO game.
That's why the genre is so popular. Even a chimpanzee can get into the basics of it.

mmo grinding with quests and stuff is so boring.
crpg is cool cause you can get a quick fix and then go to work, or do something else etc.

"A MMORPG with the Mount&Blade combat system is not technically feasible."
Lies...
more like "not infrastructurally (its a word now) feasible".

Try Darkfall...
first mmo where i was forced to macro spells and shit to be competitive but unfortunately i was archer/polearm when the majority of the players were fullmagel33tarcherpoleswordaxe!!1!! but i can confirm sieges was the best part of that game.

Yeah the begining of EU up to WW1 ranks up there with my UO memories. Our first siege was amazing, nothing but magic missiles, banded armor, and newbie weapons as far as the eye could see.

I played a lot of Darkfall too, the combat & conquest system is pretty solid. The combat is faster paced than CRPG, and more emphasis on ranged combat than CRPG. Melee combat is more simplistic, it is important tactically but it is not an art form like in M&B. That is all balancing tho (especially since it is more fantasy-ish with magic), I mean you could insert M&B style combat in there and it would be fine.
If they fixed a few things like remove the unneccessary & punishing grind, and the awful Greek dev team got its shit together, Darkfall could really take off.

It would work if you could find a way to make it not lag. It would be awesome, make a big map, lots of castles. And it would be completely player driven, the economy - everything, no bots.
-
Several linked servers, walking to the border on one server/map sends you to the other server/map + a dash of PW, could be a fun mode.
I'd play it. :P
-
Everything is possible with 'phasing' but that in it self is still pretty new, even so lots of people (at the Universities) are trying really hard to figure out how to technically make it work.
-
Darkfall was unplayable to me, when people started using magic, I just logged off during sieges.

Years ago I and a friend sat around (his a game dev, I'm a pleb) talking about an MMO type game based on Mount and Blade. After a couple of week the only feesible thing we could think of is basically strat. Unless the engine is radically improved and a whole lot more stuff is handled server side you can't mix strat and M&B into one PWesc giant mess.
The one idea we had that isn't in strat that might be a neat idea for raiding was this.
You have a point inside a building, nice tight door way that you can hold. Staying on the point generates ticks. Each tick is 10 (insert desired number here) units of something.
So you raid a castle and sit in the armory and every tick is 10 KAS or a what ever. So long as you have your guys holding the armory you keep getting the ticks. And once you've had enough of getting your butt kicked or you have killed the defending side you retreat/win.
The other ideas were things like, being able to build bandit hide outs and upgrading castles and villages.

They exploit everything and get away with it.

Play Persistent World mod if you seek MMO spirit on Mount & Blade Warband .
