Title: Petition to make NA1 a West Coast Server

There are now 2 battle/siege servers located in Chicago.

NA community now fills up and NA1 barely gets half full.

2 siege servers just split the population even more. We don't need 2.

There is as many West Coast Players as there is East Coast.

Please consider making an unpopulated server to a West Coast server.

What do you guys think?

I'd say yes, but the maps on the community server suck. Bunch of fucking counter strike-ass random buildings and shit bundle of sticksry.

No random plains. Which is the best map type ever, because I play cav. Though I enjoy the teamwork and just awesomeness of random plains.

also apparently the official servers went down for a day or two so everyone migrated to community.  the pubbies will switch back as soon as the same thing happens to community and everyone will think community is dead too.   or perhaps things will eventually just become more balanced.

I haven't been playing cRPG too much due to hardware failures but when I do manage to get on community I am disheartened by the massive amount of inaccessible ranged camping the maps allow, i'd rather not play crpg then play camp the roof with xbow every map.

I have been playing crpg from oregon for over a year, the last few patches have seen my ping drop from 120 down to 70. While the bad ping costs me in the k:d ratio, I still don't really think a further fragmentation of the small community is the solution.

Being that I'm located in Cali I would have to of course say I want a West coast server. However, there isn't any actual east coast server yet either.

As far as I'm concerned the community server is much better than NA1. The only people crying are the cav whores who can't do anything else but easy mode lancer cav.

Community has way better maps, not just cav map after cav map like NA1. Also the community server is much more stable and IMO the admins are a lot better. NA1 just had a bunch of badmins who kicked only those they didn't like or care about, but always bending the rules for their friends. Long live community!

This is all coming from an outside party perspective being that I have no clan affiliation.

Keep them in chicago to make it fair for NA

I'd ask for an East Coast server, but...fuck it, I live in Maine, our pings never get below 30 even if we're connecting to a server next door :mrgreen:

If there were 3 servers, having one east, one west, and one central would obviously be preferable. But with any less than 2 I think keeping them both central makes more sense.

Honestly, when I connected the community servers I was under the impression that they would be hosted in Dallas and would offer a second location for the NA community.

Now i just feel like they are splitting the community, host mostly unpolished maps and try to monopolize the NA official position as ATS did before.

Not that i care too much but imo we do not need 6-8 servers in the same location but rather 2+2 in different locations.

Strat one should obviously be pretty central.

I believe there should be a westcoast server... First off you have East coast players getting 30 - 40 ping in Chicago and us Westcoast players get a 75-90 ping there.

You call that central, I think not.

In my opinion a westcoast server would be nice... they have stronger hosting data bases :D Like Dallas :) 

On top of that, east coast players wouldn't have a problem with ping because since Dallas has a stronger hosting data bases then most states they should get no more then 60 ping :D unless you live out there in the woods with 4g and only allowed 10gigs of internet...

I've had the opposite experience with blocks.  But then again there's some issues with my net recently.

As for everyone?  I've only seen a very vocal group that hardly counts for the entire NA playerbase.  Personally, after playing on community, I desire the official servers more, simply because ladders were removed for a reason.

Maybe we should just have 3-6 servers in Dallas.
Then again Canadia might get a bad ping and i feel like our SA player base is rather small at the moment...
Not sure.
I'll try to get some IPs from the local data centers so we can figure out what's best for the players.
Right now i feel like we do not need more serves in the same location and the community serves might just be overkill for the NA community.

Being in California I would love a West Coast server, however I think Texas rather than Chicago would be "fair".  Look at a map, Chicago is not by any means in the middle.

Obviously the NA Community map guys are doing a decent job, not reason not to have them supply the official map cycle.

Yes, every community could host their own servers but we obviously need the best possible location for everyone.

We asked shik to do that and I think maybe 2 or 3 were added. Also, keep in mind that a lot of the maps were made with the thought of ladders in battle.

Naturally, though, Texas sounds tasty. I'm about 3 hours away from Dallas. :P

I do feel that it's a need an unofficial server should fulfill, though.

Yeah, I'd definitely prefer a Texas server. Chicago isn't exactly "central"... it's kind of east-midwest. When I lived in NYC this didn't bother me. But, go figure, I moved back out to Portland and my ping is now usually about 80-100 instead of the 40-70 I enjoyed while living on the east coast. So yeah, now it irks me that the "central" server isn't really central but in the east side of the midwest. It'd be awesome to crutch on some 10-30 ping like the midwesterners enjoy right now. I say yes to a west coast server. Texas would be acceptable as well.

While a California server would be AWESOME for those of us here on the Best Coast, Texas servers would serve adequately.  When the servers used to be in Texas i would average between 30-40 ping, when it moved to Chicago, it jumped to 70-90 and sometimes over 100 when the servers are full.  Community seems worse for me because the connection is not as stable to the NA servers for some reason so the ping spikes are more severe.

TLDR: Bring back Texas hosting.

I'm a selfish pig and as such support a West Coast server, preferbly in LA. It would drop my ping and lower the jitter I get. But I'm only one person on the other side of the world cursing his community for abandoning him. I aboozed my powers but once! BUT ONCE!

Edit: Just did some testing. I vote Dallas. Give me a much more stable reading than I get from Chicago and it isn't much worse than LA, less jitter for some reason. I'm pretty sick of ice skatting so the insanely low jitter would be lovely.

I would definitely be happy with a Texas server. I think compromise is what is needed here and that compromise would be a Texas server, not this Chicago BS. Chicago is NOT central

Obviously we have a rapist in Linki- I mean we should have 2 server groups, one about a third of the way from the east side of the country and one a third of the way from the west. The chicago location is perfect for east, and maybe if there are any good locations in Colorado... Haha nevermind.

Alternatively I think it should be done by state density. Therefore either D.C or New Jersey should have their own server.

Texas is too far south, gtfo.

Western would be too far west for a lot of people, mountainous around colarado would be ideally centralized since anyone around BC will ping roughly the same to chicago as texas.

They used to have a couple private clan west coast servers its prettttty amazing you get like no delay really

It's true that East Coast and Central players have a ping advantage. I'm in the Seattle area and average 75-85 ping--roughly twice the latency of an east coast player. As you can see by the vote distribution, at least half the players who voted would prefer a west coast server in addition to the Chicago server.

Host it in California or Washington. +1

I say no.  NA-1 is where the majority of people are playing.  Ask the community server to move.

Also, it shouldn't be a west coast server, maybe texas (one less WAN hop).  Texas and Chi are the best server locations because even if you're west coast, chi is better than NYC.  And if you're east, Texas is better than Cali or (FSM forbid, Seattle).

IMO a server should never be farther west than Los Angeles , and farther east than NYC, but central servers are the best for meeting everyone's needs (as a whole).

You'd be surprised by how many of us live in Bellingham Washington. You'd think we were a major city or something by how many of us there are in such a small community. Wouldn't be surprised if it turned out more people lived here than in Seattle from CRPG.

I gained 10 ping when Zealot moved the server from Texas to Chicago, so I'd definitely prefer the old location, having below 60 ping was amazing. Sometimes it spikes as high as 80's lately. Actually having an official west-coast server would be a bad idea though, unless it were say... a small 40-60 man server that could also be used for battlegroups?

Now, I can deal with the official server being in Chicago even though it's three quarters of the way toward the East coast, but why on earth did the community guys put up a competing server in the same city?  It annoys me greatly.

You see, we don't need to move NA1 or community 1, we have 2 siege servers that 1 of them and even both at times are at 0 population. Just take one out. This is a hard thing to do cause both the NA and Ecko want to supply the population with servers, they just need to agree on 1 thing to make this work.

At the time of this post 74 people want a west coast/Texas server maybe subtract a few EUs voting and this server will still maintain a 25-70 population all day.

NA1, 2, 3, 6 are all on the same box.  You move one you move them all or you get a second box which is expensive
