Title: Concerning autoblock
Post by: Leshma on February 13, 2012, 03:00:30 am
You said there's an alarm whenever someone use autoblock software. Yet, you wait for couple months to ban the offenders. Why?

Second thing: if there is really an alarm, red light that switches on whenever someone is using cheats, why don't you make it public so that everyone knows (via admin chat aka purple text) that said person is cheating right that moment which would autoban him (you can write an autoban script, don't you?).

Its similar with VAC, the idea is people don't know when it updates so you catch more people I think. If you ban people right away then people will inform everyone the hack is detected now, but if you leave it a while you flag more people.

Dunno if its the same here, it might just be easier this way or make people paranoid enough to not try the hack

Its really important to not be lenient though. It seems everyone is allowed to get caught once as long as you only use it for a few hours, which is a crappy message to send out. I am glad they at least do perma if its used long enough, but I don't know if they are strict on people coming back with new keys

I wish we had an alarm whenever you were about to post. Don't ever do it again. (Post that is)

I think they do it this way to give the cheaters long enough to hang themselves.  Permabans for extended use etc.  Though I think the time between ban-waves could be a little bit shorter.

Gives them time to get intel on the person without that person knowing.  see what they're up to

just like cops tailing a suspect, might lead to bigger fish.

Simple.

A dev, cmp IIRC told that they don't want to give out the method of finding the autoblockers, basically.

I'll try to dig the post up.

I don't care how they do it. I'm just curious why they wait so long. If it isn't necessary I would like autoblockers banned ASAP.

I didn't make this thread to reveal their method. I'm just curious why are they so forgiving to people who cheat. I've seen one guy who was permabanned in the last wave. He got a new key. That's lame.

It's not like auto-blockers are any good. If the key to doing well in Warband was founded on blocking perfectly, all fights would be boring.

they are lying, they cannot know if somone is cheating, they must rely on their judgment upon observing the player

If they used this then Saul would have been banned long ago.

as a lifelong hardcore multiplayer gamer since the first day of the internet...this game/mod definitely has a very low % of cheaters of any game you will ever find.  Melee mechanics and differing projectile speed/arcs make cheating very difficult.  its very refreshing to not have to worry about this kinda stuff and just enjoy the game

Not just autoblockers, its Aimbots that are getting common to.

takes 10 secs via google to find it
Title: Re: Concerning autoblock
Post by: Meow on February 13, 2012, 01:08:40 pm
Then take the extra 10 secs to read about it and realize that it is useless for multiplayer.
Best possible would maybe be something that predraws the possible flight arc of the projectile which is still pretty random.

Just because people get outskilled by others that does not mean those people are hacking...

Also make sure you never publicly accuse people of hacking.

needless to say, aimbot follows the same rule as autoblock:

use it and you are out. don't test it.

I'm not banned yet, so it should be fine.

Not acting immediately makes the anti-autoblock harder to link with ingame behavior and thus to circumvent.

Would a mod that shows the likely trajectory of your bolt be considered an aimbot? Or would it fit more along the lines of aim assist? If so, what is the stance against such mods?

As I said earlier, it's the only kind of "aimbot" that will work in multiplayer and as any other cheat will get your account permanently banned.
