Title: Loom Choice
Post by: Maximus101 on February 09, 2012, 06:24:55 pm
I had an idea about maybe being able to choose yer stats when heirlooming an item. So, if you were going for a strength build you could loom your sword so it will give you some more speed or vice versa. Whadyya think?

Could be cool, but would be difficult to balance...what's better, 1 speed or 1 cut swing damage or 1 pierce thrust damage? What about weight, does it increase/decrease? Length is sadly not possible to be changed that easily...

Would give the katana 104 speed.

So, yes, if you want to make me super awesome.
No, if you want balance.

As if you could get any better.

It wasn't actually an idea, just a fart.

It would be really really awkward to do with the game engine. Each possible stat combination for every item would need to be a separate, specifically designed item with its own ID and be linked up to the proper textures, price, etc. It would be a huge amount of work and would be incredibly difficult to balance, not to mention it could potentially have adverse affects to performance.

Hmm just thought tht it could maybe add some diversity, rather than everyone who is 2 hander having
a mw Danish that has the same boring speed and same damage. Could add more choice to the way the game
can be played and make stuff a lil more interesting. Bit I agree, whiners about balance would kill it.

Don't get me wrong, I love customization options like this, and if they could get it to work I think it would be awesome. Unfortunately the game just doesn't really support this sort of thing. I would guess this is also why we can't do things like name our looms. The game just doesn't really support it. Maybe they'll be able to do more stuff like this in MB2, but for now it's just not feasible.

As far as my limited technical understanding of how the items work, the items have stats (including name, damage, speed, etc) linked to their type, not to the individual reference that the game creates on spawning you. So if, for example, you have one person that gives +1 damage to their longsword, and another that gives +1 speed, the devs would need to make 2 separate types of longswords to support this. With the number of items in game, combined with 3 heirloom levels, that means thousands of new item types would have to be made.

i think giving more opportunities to loom your weapon would be awesome

it wouldnt just go 'the higher your loom level the more improoved is everything'

you should be able to choose between different loom choices (e.g. weight, demage, speed, accuracy, amount of ammo, armor ect.)
