Title: Lancer cavalry build. To glory!
Post by: Christo on February 27, 2011, 09:09:28 pm
So, I thought about using my Courser again, fighting on foot all the time is a bit boring.  :wink:

I made a cool build with the Calculator, what do you guys think?

Level 31 (8 892 403 xp)

    Strength: 18
    Agility: 18
    Hit points: 65

    Unused attribute points: 1
    Unused skill points: 1

    Converted: 2
    Ironflesh: 6
    Power Strike: 6
    Shield: 2
    Athletics: 5
    Riding: 4
    Horse Archery: 0
    Power Draw: 0
    Power Throw: 0
    Weapon Master: 6

    One Handed: 1
    Two Handed: 1
    Polearm: 151
    Archery: 1
    Crossbow: 1
    Throwing: 1

With this, I'll have one free point either to convert, or to add it somewhere. Here are my questions;

1: Is there a noticaeble difference between riding 4 and 5, if I want to use a courser? ( I'm thinking about the smaller Warhorse though )
2: Is there a noticaeble difference between athletics level 5, and level six?
3: What do you think, as a lancer, a level2 shield ( I thought about Horseman's Heater, or the Kite shield for lv2 ) will be enough, or the lv3 Knightly Heater is needed?

Also, I'm a bit undecided, shall I go for 19/18, or 18/19?

Thanks for reading.

well first of all I would calculate with level 30 and not 31.

and if you want to be a deidcated horse man i would get rid of at least 2 ath. points and put one in riding and one in shield.

you might even think of using 0 ath. skill, depending on what style you want to play.

a dedicated horseman for me looks like this

    * Strength: 18
    * Agility: 18
    * Hit points: 65

    * Converted: 2
    * Ironflesh: 6
    * Power Strike: 6
    * Shield: 4
    * Athletics: 1
    * Riding: 6
    * Horse Archery: 0
    * Power Draw: 0
    * Power Throw: 0
    * Weapon Master: 6

    * One Handed: 1
    * Two Handed: 1
    * Polearm: 156
    * Archery: 1
    * Crossbow: 1
    * Throwing: 1

just my 2 cents, really depends on what you want to do with your char.

Well, I would like to be able to fight on foot and on horseback effectively as well, I want a balance between these two.

And I don't really need high shield skills because playing shield+spear isn't that effective if I lose the horse. It's just there for style, and basic ranged protection for a few shots.

hey!

well I use a war spear with my horse alt if Im on foot as it doesnt give you any penalties and I do quite well with it. and if I the opponent keeps on downblocking I just use the warspear without a shield.

and even on foot you migh need the shield to get close to archers plus you might not be able to change your weapon when beeing dehorsed if the person is very close to you.

maybe 3 shield skill to use elite cavalry shield?

    * Strength: 18
    * Agility: 18
    * Hit points: 63

    * Converted: 2
    * Ironflesh: 5
    * Power Strike: 6
    * Shield: 3
    * Athletics: 4
    * Riding: 5
    * Horse Archery: 0
    * Power Draw: 0
    * Power Throw: 0
    * Weapon Master: 6

Blah, hate those round shields.

I prefer a lance though, heavy/great, or both.
That's why more shield skill than 2 is useless imo, I can just get the lv2 Horseman's Heater.

yeah, lance on horseback, warspear on foot : P

but if you like your 2 shieldskill there is not much to discuss about ;-)

again - dont use 31 to calculate. it just takes you to long, you will spend a lot of time at level 30 and therefore should have a liable build with level 30

so you have to cut off 3 skill points if you try this build with level 30 as you have to convert 2 skill points to one attribute point to get 18/18 at level 30.

so if you use this build you will have either 17 agi or 17 str at level 30 giving you either one point less in weapon master or one point less in IF and PS as you dont meet the req. for 6 skillpoints.

so you just miss out to much at level 30. especially if you like to retire to heirloom once you hit 31

This is my build, hybrid 1h (I prefer slashing heads) and lancer on a (heavy) courser:

Strength   21
Agility   15

One Handed   123   [7 WPF cost]
Two Handed   1   [1 WPF cost]
Polearm   98   [4 WPF cost]
Archery   1   [1 WPF cost]
Crossbow   1   [1 WPF cost]
Throwing   1   [1 WPF cost]

Ironflesh   2
Power Strike   7
Shield   5
Athletics   5
Riding   5
Horse Archery   0
Power Draw   0
Power Throw   0
Weapon master *   5

If you are a lancer cavalry that is a hybrid for ground fighting, Forget the ironflesh and maximize where your strengths are before you worry about weaknesses. Ironflesh doesn't give you good results unless you have a lot of it and heavy armor.

I suggest this if you want a balanced cav&foot build, it will perform beautifully.

**WPF placement is up to you. This would be pole arm-only, just for example.
Level 30 (4 420 577 xp)

    * Strength: 18
    * Agility: 18
    * Hit points: 53

    * Converted: 2
    * Ironflesh: 0
    * Power Strike: 6
    * Shield: 5
    * Athletics: 6
    * Riding: 6
    * Horse Archery: 0
    * Power Draw: 0
    * Power Throw: 0
    * Weapon Master: 6

    * One Handed: 1
    * Two Handed: 1
    * Polearm: 156
    * Archery: 1
    * Crossbow: 1
    * Throwing: 1

Ironflesh is useful on a horse.

Ironflesh is useful on a horse.
I'm a huge proponent of IF in builds but I think in this case it is less important.

I'm not arguing that it has no place, but rather that he should maximize his strengths before raising a slight weakness that a small number of ironflesh put a band-aid on.
Higher athletics & riding means he avoids getting hit more often and is more maneuverable on the battlefield. A more dedicated cav may have more reason to get IF but athletics should take priority in a balanced footman/cav set up when IF would be a low number anyways.

And, honestly, I support your 21/15 build more than an 18/18 build for cav&foot. Notice in yours that you are not sacrificing any athletics/riding/wm/shield that you are capable of getting but also get a bit more dmg and health. You do move a bit slower mounted & on foot but I'd say it is a good exchange.

When based on lvl 30
* Strength: 21
    * Agility: 15
    * Hit points: **

    * Converted: 2
    * Ironflesh: 6
    * Power Strike: 7
    * Shield: 3
    * Athletics: 4
    * Riding: 4

    * Weapon Master: 5

    * Polearm: 144

If base on 31
* Strength: 21
    * Agility: 18
    * Hit points: **

    * Converted: 6
    * Ironflesh: 4
    * Power Strike: 7
    * Shield: 3
    * Athletics: 2
    * Riding: 4

    * Weapon Master: 6

    * Polearm: 165

I had a balanced lancer build before retiring (18 str 18 agi)
Now as a test, i'm trying the agi cav, not very popular out there but i find it quite good. Here you go

Age   45 [30]
Strength   15
Agility   23

Polearm   162
Ironflesh   0
Power Strike   5
Shield   2
Athletics   4
Riding   7
Horse Archery   0
Power Draw   0
Power Throw   0
Weapon master *   7

Going to agi 24 at level 31, to try weapon master 8
As you i find useless to have more then 2 points in shields. Riding 7 is quite useful, you outmanouver almost al cavs and i think the horse takes more hits too.
Ps 5 is low yes, but with an heirloomed heavy lance + high speed i oneshot almost everyone.
On foot i can outspam a lot of foes, since i'm not good at blocking, i find it very useful too.

I find that when you try to hybrid a 1H/2H with Cav, it usualy hurts a bit since you need more WPF in Polearm than the others. I would just recommend going Cav/Polearm and carry maybe a Bec or something. Maybe try...

Level 30
* Strength: 15
* Agility: 24

* Converted: 8
* PowerStrike: 5
* Athletics: 2
* Riding: 8
* Weapon Master: 8
* Polearm: 173

I'm going to resurrect this topic, because I will go cav next gen.

This is the build I found out:
(click to show/hide)

Maybe with that 55 WPF I could do some basic shield/1h job, or it won't be useful at all?

Honestly I think 1h with shield takes the *most* wpf to be effective, whereas Polearm takes much less wpf to be effective.

My latest build (and my most satisfying build!) is an 18/18 Lancer +1h shield hybrid. I'm having a LOT of fun with it, I can fight pretty well on foot, I can move around quickly, and it's easy to top scoreboards once you get on horseback (Pro-Tip: Killing squishy peasants from horseback makes you look better on the scoreboard!).

I find it is very effective both on foot and on horseback.

Hmm.. Guess I'll roll pure Polearms then.

Too bad, that shield would be useful though for fighting.

Honestly if you're just wanting to go lancer, don't worry too much about polearm wpf. If you want to use polearms on foot though too, then sure, but more points into polearm. Also, if you only really wanna use 1h from horseback or use it as a secondary skill, you could easily get away with 50-100 wpf, it's just not ideal. For a primary weapon I'd say 110+, though.

Just edited my post a bit too :O

I'm mostly a polearm user, but who knows, maybe I'll buy some OP 1h weapon for low wpf use.

They are fast anyway.

Don't be a side-sworder! Italian sword and timing is all you need! (Especially if you got the athletics to manuever!)

Side Sword? lol Never.
Those Huscarl+SS abusers disgust me.

Thought about something that actually looks like a sword, and has style.
