Title: Fix repair costs for picked items!
Post by: Aldaron on February 05, 2012, 10:09:05 pm
Sometimes I have really bad luck, get to pay thousands, and drop to 200 money. So I start saving money, and playing without equipment. Then I want to pick up stuff from dead guys. Logical, right! But if a siege ends while I'm still alive and holding some piece of equipment, then next round I may have to pay to repair it. This happened to me twice now. It happened, even when I immediately dropped the gear at the start of next game.

Am I meant to play hours with only fists, or what?

I think this is very silly. Please fix it. If nothing else, make gear disappear between matches. Please.

So you want to legalize leeching? Read the rules - http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,2606.0.html

Are you playing Defend the Virgin?

Are you spending almost all of your gold on new gear as soon as you can?

It should pretty much be impossible to run out of money via repairs before you know how to play.

If you've somehow managed to get a lot of expensive equipment and are oblivious to how it works... try to make an equipment build around 15-20k if you want to make money.  Definitely do not go above 25k.  That is equipment loadout price, by the way.  Horses are very expensive.

Also, only items you own should have to be maintained.. I've never had to maintain an item I've looted but I have had to maintain an item I didn't have.  EX: select bamboo spear, spawn with bamboo spear.  Drop it, pick up MW Pike.  Maintain Bamboo spear.  Next round, respawn with MW pike, no bamboo spear, still maintaining bamboo spear (and not pike)

You may also just be the unluckiest person ever in which case it's not really the system's fault that it's random, but random is random.  Random.  :)

If you haven't done it already get into strategus, you can just sit inside of a fief and work (this happens hourly you just check it every day.. or week)  Your strategus character doesn't even have to be doing anything and you'll get strategus gold when you play c-RPG which can be "sent to relatives" for extra c-RPG gold.

Removing upkeep from looted weapons would lead to teammates swapping weapons at the start of a round. Removing weapons on round change would prevent people from keeping a sweet +3 weapon they looted.

Once you have some money in the bank (~10k), just use 35k worth equipment or less, and you should be fine (in the long term).

No, I don't want to legalize leeching. I want to play, and I always do play. Sometimes my naked guy isn't very useful, but hey, what can I do if I run out of reserve money.

I'm not playing Defend the Virgin, but mostly Siege. Which seems to be costly sometimes, especially when levels are quickly won. I mostly like to play with a 25k build (I'm level 31 now), and try to keep 5000 money as a reserve. But yes, as I wrote this, I had managed to come down from ~5000 to almost nothing with a 25k build. So I started saving using a 2k build (red tunic, knobbed mace, leather covered shield) and still managed to lose money at times. I was almost up to 4000, when two looted items cost me ~1200 money again. With 1x, money doesn't pile up very fast. And the cheapest weapons are also almost useless, that's why I try to use looted ones.

The point about teammate weapon-swapping is a good one. So maybe the good approach is to remove looted weapons between games! I don't care if I don't get to keep a sweet weapon I don't own (and don't get to keep anyways for much longer).

I don't pick up equipment a lot in the battle server, but I never get hit with an upkeep when I do.  I remember on my first gen I would pick up stuff a lot and have to pay upkeep for it.

Did they remove this, or tone it down a lot, or am I just lucky?

My cheapest loadout is 29 k, and my expensive one is 38 k. With the first one, I make shittons of money, with the second I make slightly money. Its totally not possible to loose money with a loadout thats only 25 k...

You, sir, are much luckier than I am.

I had one game with a 2k loadout. The siege was won in less than 150 seconds (thus only +100 money at 1x), and I paid 110 in repairs.

Uhh if you only have such a small amount of gold it's probably not a good idea to be picking up looted fancy weapons. Also the cheapest weapons are not useless. You can use very basic and cheap weapons and still do very good.

Well, I guess I'll just make a habit out of dropping everything at the end of every match, just to be sure. And try to keep a reserve of 10000 gold or so, then start striptease if gold goes under 5000. Btw, it's stupid I always fail to switch to poor gear when we lose and multiplier goes down, but maybe that's just my problem..

I still think it's stupid. There are many possible solutions - maybe keep track on what wps are actually used or anything else.

work yourself up to about 20k.  that should be enough money to help you survive downstreaks,  whilst upstreaks help fill the pokets.

than find a gear set that is fun for you and costs under 30k.  play with that until you are a real help to the team.  than start getting better gear according to your impact : )
