Title: I ask my fellow weeaboo weapon users a question...
Post by: Kuyamzoleta on February 04, 2012, 05:29:51 pm
I asked mori this earlier but I'd still like some input from the community. I planned on going 30/9 for the katana and nodachi, but after using 3 athletics I obviously can't cover the distance I need to make contact during fights, so, how much athletics would you say would be nice, with still being able to pack a punch? 24/15? 27/12?

27/12 can work for a nodachi, but the katana is so terribly short ranged that on the NA servers you will need 15 agility I think, minimum. This is assuming battle of course, Rageball you need a lot more AGI unless you are a goalkeeper, and for siege on NA athletics is not needed if you confine yourself to wall and flag fighting, avoiding the rare few courtyards.

3 whatever, IF, WM, shield, etc.

Kind of like Malaclypse's suggestion.. If you're going HIGH STR for the DAMAGE as opposed to the health, but you still want to be relatively fast on your feet.  converting 14 skills can be useful :D

Level 30 (4 420 577 xp)

    * Strength: 24
    * Agility: 18
    * Hit points: 65

    * Skills to attributes: 14

    * Ironflesh: 3
    * Power Strike: 8
    * Athletics: 6

    * Two Handed: 111

30/9 worked just fine for me last gen with a MW German Greatsword, so I bet it could work with a Nodachi. I have my doubts on the Katana, however.

A few gens back I used a variation of the build Mori posted. I had 3 shield instead of 3 IF. It worked pretty well and I don't recall any major problems, even with the 59 health that came with it.

You could try flipping it and going 18/24 (I would recommend some IF with that). The Nodachi packs a serious punch as is and the extra Athletics would be a considerable boon when using the Katana.

I sometimes use a katana on my 11IF/PS char with 35str/3agi. Works fine. If the enemy gets out of your range, then back away from his. When he starts walking towards you, you do the same and the distance gap is almost instantly crossed. He's actually my caveman char and is normally naked with a cudgel and even with that I manage to score a positive k:d most rounds.

The standard ninja build we recommend after countless testing is 15/24 with mw katana. With a non loomed katana 18/21 works.

Learn the range of the Nodachi. A lot of players seem unaware of how long it actually is, might have to do with slight phantomrange. If you do know the range you might get an easy hit in, which will be all you need with 8/9/10 powerstrike.

Nodachi has high cut damage so doesn't need a whole lot of powerstrike. Maybe more athlethics is more useful so you can dance in and out of your enemies range and use your range as an advantage.

Why would they do this? Not really logical, if we have a mixed-cultures mod, why would they remove one of the cultures?

Oh, about the topic:

Go 9str/30agi, still awesome. Just like year ago... When I last played this game. :)

At the moment testing 9/30 build and it looks they didn't change anything :)

I'm 9/30 right now. Katana, full light strange armour.
With 10 athletics the 3 ps turns into 6 because of simple footwork and using it to make your speed bonus higher. I go 3/1 ratio most games, sometimes more.

as of late i plan to go 24/15 with noteably 8 PS and 5 ath. It's pretty easy with 7 PS so far as i'm only level 29. However, the only problem I have on the battle field is facing heavier agility katana users. They're able to strike way more, and get out of my range easy. I'd want to try it out sometime, but the only problem I see with a heavy agility build is it's survivability versus cavalry, arrows, people who are good :P etc.

Planned
24/15
6 IF
8 PS
5 ATH
4 WM

137 2h prof.

I can vouch for how awesome the 9/30 build is.

My 9/30 STF has a higher KDR than my heavy cavalry main. True story.
