With ath 7 you can wear any armour you want.
Sure plate armour slow you down, but we speak about milliseconds in comparison to lighter protection.

My Transitional moves just fine, and I have 7 Athletics.

Main thing heavy armor fucks up afaik is acceleration, which is a major drawback in duels.

I like to wear either light or medium armor (30-45 rating-ish), anything more and I feel super-slow. Plus armor is shit vs. ranged and cavbumps anyway so not worth the cost bringing heavy armor imo.

I am wearing Transitional specifically because it is not shit against ranged right now. Cut melee weapons hurt me more than arrows.

In my transitional if an archer only does body shots it would probably take more than 7 to kill me. The farther away the less damage they do too.

Transitional Armour is 53 body armour, that's the amount of armour I have on my main. With 21 strength and 5 IF to boot one arrow from Zerobot takes 50 % damage post-patch.

Nice body armour, but since he shot you in the boot, what is your leg armour total?

Didn't shoot me in the boot. 'To boot' can also mean 'in addition'. So, in addition to the 53 body armour I have 21 strength and 5 IF. He shot me in the body.

Lordly Transitional Armor with Lordly Red Wisby Gauntlets gives me 68 body armor. Someone who preferred function over form with their gloves would have over 70 body armor.

As with anything, there is always an exception to the rule. There is always that one archer you need to actually take seriously in a group of archers you are free to ignore.
