Title: I'm not one to complain but somethings off...
Post by: ArmoredFan on January 31, 2012, 06:46:47 pm
So I am using the Poleaxe at 144 wpf. I just played for 45 minutes and had to repair it three times. Essentially I have to repair it just about every round if not twice every time I play. In the same five minutes I had to repair 9 other things. So about 6000 for 45 minutes of play and I only wear a total of 26k~ in EQ. (However I did put on a 20k armor which I then repaired next to immediately and took off.

Can someone help explain how repairs work? If anyone else uses a Poleaxe do you find yourself paying out of ass to use it?

Repairs are random. Every minute of a round, at the same time you get the tick giving you money and exp there's a small chance (can't remember exactly what it is) that your items will break and you have to pay 7% of their cost. wpf reduces it for weapons, but sometime you just get unlucky.

this.

My tears of revelations uses a poleaxe and sustains at 41K (when playing battle).

iirc break chance is based on slots, so your poleaxe has 2 chances to break per tick while the rest of your equipment has 1 chance to break per tick.

It can't be broken twice in a round though (unless you are using two separate ones).

Apparently that's incorrect.

Wow. Never even thought of it that way. IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!

my horse needs upkeep everyother run, plus my arrows every round.

Bow and sword and armor, at least of them on top of the horses every around...so Im sure poleaxe repair doesnt hurt that much :P

BTW, the loger the round is, the bigger chance of upkeep (5% per minute for all items but arrows - arrows have higher chance), so if you had long rounds your poleaxe would need reparing more.

So thats why my Danish breaks so much

I was not aware it was based on slots.

So one handers are half the cost as a 2 hander or polearm...because they supposedly would get damaged 1/2 as much?

I can see wood weapons getting damaged more often than steel ones, but the length of your weapon should not change how often it gets damaged. Its still going to hit and get hit as often as anything else.

well idk about the slot thing but i do know the made it across the board chance of stuff breaking

makes sense seeing how much people argue here, i doubt the want to hear QQ players whining about how a polearm should break more then there weapon because its wood

If that is true it would be kind of unfair to 3 slot polearm users.

It being repaired 3/4 rounds isn't so bad. I once had a winning streak of 10 rounds that I broke at least 1 weapon every round [2 lances, and poleax], and one or two piece of armor with 120/100 wpf. Then I left the server and everything was fine until the map change where something similar happened over the course of 12 rounds, but I think I only lost a total of 5k, or perhaps even made a profit.

Well, people using 1handers usually have either a shield, bow or crossbow - so they also might pay for another item. Sure, that one will not cost as much as a 2hander or polearm, but still. There are also shields (steel shield), bows and crossbows using 2 slots so those people pay a bit more as well. And archers pay more often for their arrows anyway. It is pretty much balanced and imo 2hand and polearm users should have more disadvantages anyway.
Until now I was always fine with repairs, however whenever I used a horse I had to pay for it 4 out of 5 times.

Plated charger breaks every other round or so. 4.5k upkeep.

You can't have wpf in horses so I dunno I guess horses must just break randomly.  Anyway, just sayin.
