Title: Horses + Upkeep
Post by: Akryn on February 26, 2011, 06:19:37 pm
I was wondering, which is the best horse would I be able to buy and upkeep while still making small profit?

Rouncey, good all around and cheap horse

Not anything better? I have a Plafrey at the moment. I had it before upkeep was introduced and back then Palfreys were better statistically.

35-40K of total equipment is easly manageable, and you still get some extra gold.

I've just upgraded what I wear to:

Veigar War Helm
Lamellar Armor
Mail Chausses
Mail Mittens

I will be using a heavy lance.

Would I be able to upkeep a War Horse or a Destrier?

Depends on your multiplier. Go with more sets of armor and horse. Choose lower armor and cheaper horse when you're without a multiplier and go for the heavy stuff when you got a multiplier five.

What about my standard horse which I can use all the time during x1?

If I use lower armor, what's the best horse I would be able to sustain?

It's quite possible to make money riding a courser, but you'll have to be naked.

I use a courser, heavy lance, and cheap-ass cavalry sheild. I'm still able to make money, although you can't be on the loosing team for too too long.

If you desire armor or more money, rouncey works too. If you have high riding and are a skilled cav player you can do very well with just a rouncey.

Furax is right, 30-40k is easly manageable. I myself use 55,900 worth of gear and that includes a courser, heavy lance, and bec de corbin, the rest is some mid level armor which works well. The thing is though my gold goes up or down 10k so you need some kind of safe guard. And if you want to make some gold I suggest not using ur horse on maps that you can't lol and go nakedish and just bring a good weapon and practice your weapon skills. I make mad cash when I do that.

Just get a Rouncey and Courser, switch between them depending on your current gold and/or multiplier or depending on whether you feel like just trying to earn more gold. Once you build up a nice amount of gold you could get something like a cataphract horse to use at high multipliers, if it breaks you'll have most of the repair cost covered by the rounds gold anyway, just wear some medium tier gear whilst using it and you'll be fine.

I use a destrier with very low armor, and a heavy lance and awlpike for lulz on foot. If I have a high multiplier, I'll upgrade the armor to mid-tier.

I float around the same monetary mark. I just keep a 10k reserve; anytime I drop below it, I downgrade to a rouncey til I have 20k, and reset the process. I can generally make my money back in a day or two.

Maybe in your dreams. Aim for 48k total equipment cost, including your horse, for sustainable equipment on an average win to loss ratio.

::edit:: by my calculations, you would be losing 44.79 gold on average per tick with a typical win-loss ratio on a war horse. On a destrier, you would lose 23.37 per tick.

Thanks to all of you so far.

I've went back to my lower armor and bought a Rouncey (I don't understand why the Rouncey seems to be a lot better than the Palfrey AND is cheaper).

I'm still making a lot of money and think I'm going to get a Courser for when times are good.
