Title: Archers build - i am new and need opinions
Post by: Fotsopp on January 29, 2012, 02:24:38 am
Level 31 PURE archer build

Strength: 18
Agility: 24

Skills to attributes: 12

Athletics: 6
Power Draw: 6
Weapon Master: 8
Archery: 172

I was wondering if this could be worth it as a build, i am thinking maximum accuracy.
I also have a couple of other archer related questions:
1. I have heard that i should have one more PD than the requirement for the bow i am using, is this true? And in case why?
2. And how much is WPF increasing accuracy, does it cap somewhere?
3. What is the specific game mechanics surrounding armor and accuracy?

All opinions are welcome  :D

I'm pretty sure everything you have read on the forums about archery is pretty out the window in the current state. Pretty much all the builds are back on the table. But I let the archers give you actual tips :P

150 accuracy is damn accurate with the Horn bow

More room for PD

with new headshot mania I just point out the fact the wpf is more important than ever.

I love your built, use horn bow+ tatar and aim for the head!

the only thing I find touchy is your ''lack'' of ath but if you wear light gear it will be just fine!

(for the record I respecced my archer alt to an 9/30 built for maximum headshot accuracy, with bow+arrow I can 1 shot any NON-LOOMED helmet user)

to answer this question don't go higher the 6 PD. each point in PD reduces accuracy and with new nerf to body shots more PD is useless. If you're planning on using longbow or rus bow 6 PD is enough. If using a horn bow i'd only use 5 PD

Adalwulf is good so I'd recommend following his advice. But on the PD I'm not sure going to 7 is a bad idea. I've been trying it the first time this week. It's not possible to get head shots all the time and I see some difference when I hit people on the body (they tend to say "ouch"). If they are light on armor, they die. I have +3 bodkins and +1 horn by the way and I have a 21 - 18 build (156 wpf, 7PD, 6Ath) currently. Usually as a starter you have little time before you die in a round. So it would be nice to have some power on your shots so that they can show an effect in your limited number of hits.

In short, for an experienced bowman, I think 18-18 and 21-18 makes little difference. But 5 PD doesn't make me comfortable. So I appreciate Adalwulf for his success with it :).

I am using this:
level 31

Strength    18
Agility    24

Archery    155

Skills

Athletics    8
Power Draw    6
Weapon Master    6

works fine for me

Armor weight
Armor weight modified proficiency = base proficiency * (1 - 0.01 * effective armor weight)
Effective armor weight = 3*head armor weight + body armor weight + leg armor weight + 2*hand armor weight - 7
(Source: WaltF4)

This means that every point of armor weight with helmet weight multiplied by 3 and glove weight multiplied by 2  over 7 reduces your wpf by 1%. Or the same put other way, any effective armor weight from the above equation reduces your wpf 1% per 1 point. So 130 wpf with 8 effective armor weight is actually 0.99 * 130 = 128.7 wpf

18/24 is my favorit build
6pd
6ath
8wm

if u play with horn bow a minimum of 150 is enough but imo 160 is better
same for rusbow / longbow minimum of 160 is enough but 170 is better
i tested 183 in archery and the only change between 170 and 180 is the target stay closed a bit more longer

to make simple, about weight i try to dont reach a max of 15 for all gear (weapon, armor, quiver... )
good luck as F agcher

sry for my bad english

He is playing a lot on EU, and i would listen to whatever Adalwulf has to say :) A very annoying archer, shot me countless time :)
I guess you could drop IF, since you don't want to melee at all, but then you will need athletics - if you don't fight, you need to run.

Thank you all for the input.
I was a little worried about the athletic loss, but then i read that each AGI is worth about 1/3 of an ATH (not sure if that is true) so i sacrificed one ATH together with the IF from the original build i was looking at and turned them into AGI and one more point in WM so i could have more WPF.

Thanks again for the help, i want to use a long bow or rus bow so i think i will go for my original plan and not go over 6 PD :D

If this is an alt, a level 31 build is fine.
For any main character that will retire, you should plan a level 30 build as at 31 you will retire and thus spend half your playing time at 30.
