Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance (console video game) was my favorite action "co-op" RPG I've ever played. Way better than the old school Baldur's gate games on the PC. I hate RPG games where you have to control 4 or more characters. Even going back to Final Fantasy days on NES, games like Dragon Warrior (where you controlled 1 character) were waaaay better.
I wouldn't mind a game like LotR - War in the North for it's "co-op" elements. However I don't like the model that every MMORPG follows these days:
Instanced dungeons (no more shared resources you have to fight over).
Fake PVP where you can't loot items from the dead (i.e. not enough risk vs reward in PVP).
Quest models (when you run out of quests, then the game is over?)
Emphasis on pixel crack (i.e. equipment) and not on skill gain (and overall "skill" that you personally bring to the table).

Please don't compare Dark Alliance with Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Cracka, at least only do so as action games and not as RPGs. Dark Alliance was as more or less only action where Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 were real story-driven RPGs with branching, multiple choice dialogue and personal and game world consequences for your characters, something that worked very well (and uniquely in game history afaik) when played in co-op (in BG2).
But I must say I also prefer to control one main character, which was also possible in co-op BG2.
