Title: Nordic pot and conical helmet
Post by: Gisbert_of_Thuringia on January 25, 2012, 07:35:02 pm
Can you please change them back to the old texture and check for realistic models on the internet before changing it agian?

That thing is ugly, doesn't look realistic and looks like a gas mask/morion :/

I don't think they are that bad what was wrong with the old ones? Can't we have both?

I prefer the new ones. The old one would have been okay if it didn't make you char bald.

Basically, if a char had down syndrome he would be wearing the old nordic pot helm.

True that^^

But the new ones are not really norman/ nordic style in my opinion.

No one used the old pot helmet, being hairless sucks. Afaik there is a way to have hair as well as your helmet, but some hairstyles can cause clipping issues.

You have no idea what was used, such kind of helmets existed and are well documented. So don't speak about things you have no fuckin' idea, 'kay?

Well I've never seen some similar to those in crpg, neither in books nor on the internet, except for computer games, nor in in a museum or on medieval markets.

Any website or book you can recommend where they talk about these ones?

Gisbert, i'll try looking for some examples ont he web, but having studied medieval warfare for a while, I can say that those new helmets are historical.

Think of it from an ahistorcial standpoint for a second: What are the benefits of veiled ("ventail") mail coifs with eye-holes over open coifs?

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

It's not about benefit, it's about looking good^^

Hhmm..checked the pot helmet again, looks fine, but they conical helmet still looks too much like police-speacial troops masks :/

Anyway, anyone already managed to make the face visible?
And is it possible to release a second version of these which is less dark? Would like to have a helmet that fits to mail hauberk. The old ones at least fit a bit, but the new ones don't really :/

i'd rather be protected then look good on the battlefield, that's why this is historically accurate.

The others are historically accurate too.

And sometimes functionality looks beautiful too.

The new models look vastly better than the old ones. They just need to get the face textures to load properly.

While I do enjoy the hollow helmet, they do need to be fixed, those new aventails (right term, right?) are simply awesome.

Both the models are replicas of extant early medieval helmets from eastern Europe. The helm the Nordic Pot is based on has holes around the rim, so there's every chance it supported mail face protection (though the holes could equally have been used for lining, to the best of my knowledge). I'm pretty sure the helmet the Nordic Conical is based on could not accomodate anything similar though. Maybe it was worn over a coif, but I wouldn't have thought it would be very secure if that were the case.

I would like to have the pot helmet with an open coif just as the normal coif we have.

Really don't like that it only has a small slit for the eyes :/
