Title: Annoying texture autoupdate
Post by: Cup1d on January 23, 2012, 07:39:35 pm
Well, I've got a hardened veteran videocard, that serve me for 6 years (8800gtx)

Thats why after every update I must resize all DDS texture files, because with standart texture quality I've got crazy stuttering.
Can someone tell me, is it possible to tune up Launcher to NOT update old texture files, because it's little frustrating to resize 60-120 files after every update. Looks like I did it four times since new year.

Please?

Maybe use the optimization mod for crpg?

Dont you think that optimisation\low texture mod is little outdated?

At first you need Photoshop and  DDS plug-in for Photoshop
For example you can find one there
http://developer.nvidia.com/nvidia-texture-tools-adobe-photoshop

Then all you need is just open DDS files in your ...\Warband\Modules\cRPG\Textures

Go to image\image size

Resize

And save

Who need this 4096x2048 texture? Just resize them up to 1024x512. Same with other armors, weapons, bows. Be careful with Gutek textures (walls, stones, etc)

Feel the difference

Alright cool :)

One could easily macro that with actions or other..

That all really? Does the game recognize different sizes of the same texture? Is there some kind of naming procedure?

Ait.. I'll look at it. :) Thanks!

You can automate this conversion by using the freeware XnView (http://www.xnview.com/en/xnview.html) with NConvert (http://www.xnview.com/en/download_nc.html)

The DDS files are supported.

You can simply download and use the portable version (zip) : XnView v1.98.5 Complete version (Some Plugins/Addons & NConvert, ShellEx, Media Detector) (http://download3.xnview.com/XnView-win-full.zip)

Then go in Tools > Batch Processing

(click to show/hide)

It take around 2 min to convert 300 dds files.

Enjoy

Sounds great.

Any image quality loss? What's the performance gain?
I'm playing on a quite old machine as well, on 1280x1024.

Thanks for the guide though, I'll look into it.

This is like for quality textures in settings, it require less RAM for textures but of course you lose in quality.
But you gain much time in loading the game at textures and especially increase performance for those who use load_texture_on_demand. At least I think, I never tried for now.

Launcher already does that, unless you select repair or unless you are using a prehistoric version.
