Title: Great Long Axe as a 2Her
Post by: jspook on February 24, 2011, 09:40:58 pm
Started in This (http://forum.c-rpg.net/index.php/topic,2322.msg41371.html#msg41371) topic

I would go crazy with this as a 2Her.  I would pretty much just put all of my wpf in 2H instead of 130 2H and 110 Polearm.
I currently use the Great Long Axe as my secondary when I am up against turtles.

So yeah..... way OP

Miaodao, Board Shield, Great Long Axe
after retirement I will put points into shield instead of riding and change that to a Huscarl.
Also planning on heirlooming the axe after I am finished with the 2Her of my choice

Probably isn't so topic related comment but ill say it

Axes of theses sizes as in crpg you cant swing as 2h you must place your hands as in the way polearm animation works

try to swing 120cm axe in real life with hand position as with animations in 2h, you will se how incredibly slow are you,
and have you ever chopped wood with axe, if not look at someone who did, youll see how he holds his hands.

Of course.  You have to hold one hand near the head to start the swing, and then slide it down the shaft to get maximum force.  Its like when you use a sledgehammer, or when you hit that damn bell at the faire.  but they dont have any coding like that in MWB, they only have the polearms held near the centre, and the sword grips for 2H.

you make do.

I disagree the weapon in two hand mode could be unbalanced and basically be an incremental upgrade over the almost unused great bardiche at twice the cost while satisfying two hander desire for a actual high tier shield buster post crush nerf

Great Bardiche
4500 weight
3.25
requirement 15
spd rtng 89
weapon length 116
swing damage 44, cut
thrust damage 0 pierce
Can't use on horseback
Unbalanced
Bonus against Shield

Great Long Axe
9730
weight 3.5
requirement 15
spd rtng 92
weapon length 125
swing damage 46, cut
thrust damage 16 blunt
Can't use on horseback
Bonus against Shield

When used as a polearm the effective length of the weapon is 105 (-20 range for polearm grip).  Wielded as a 2her this would actually be longer than the Danish/German pikeswords (123/124 range).  While being 92 speed (effectively 97 with 2her animation speeds taken into account) and having flamberge range damage (flamberge:  48c, 86 speed for comparison) WITH bonus vs shields.

Given the facts above I reiterate:  What 2her would use anything else?  A 92 speed, lolsword ranged, flamberge damage dealing 2-handed weapon of shieldbreaking?  If you made it unbalanced it would be the war cleaver with bonus vs shields, more range, and more damage + shield breaking.  Which would make that sub-par weapon even more worthless as far as internal balance goes.
Making the great long axe usable as a 2her would be a bad idea imo as there wouldn't really be a reason NOT to use it if you're a 2her.

In two hand mode in native it loses thrust, being unbalanced would mean u can't feint/switch swings/ fight as effectively as the great swords that gain speed on heirloom unlike axes/maces  easily

And 1 unit of range doesn't equal my danish greatsword that has a killing thrust that two hand great long axe doesn't have in native anyhow

It'd be like a good shield buster with high upkeep so u would skimp on other equipment, I actually tend to lose money with this cost of weapon and good armor if I am not running constant good multis

In native, the great long axe loses a lot of speed when used in two hand mode.

So perhaps it could be done with stats such as:
Great Long Axe 2h mode
weight 3.5
requirement 15
spd rtng 86
weapon length 125
swing damage 46, cut
thrust damage 0 blunt
Can't use on horseback
Bonus against Shield
Unbalanced

Bardiche for comparison
Great Bardiche
weight 3.25
requirement 15
spd rtng 89
weapon length 116
swing damage 44, cut
thrust damage 0 pierce
Can't use on horseback
Unbalanced
Bonus against Shield

Taking away the thrust and adding the imbalanced modifier is a good balance for the class....
but 86 speed is WAY to slow.

It's necessary for internal balace.  It has longer range and higher damage than the great bardiche.  At the very least they'd have to be the same speed otherwise you've completely destroyed the value of every other axe-like weapon in the 2her list.

It's actually something I think should be done for internal balance with all the weapon lists really.  Right now their is like 2, MAYBE 3, weapons in each tree that make every other weapon worthless except for aesthetic value.

Or just leave it as polearm only, seeing as 2h already have a large pool of decent weapons, if you want to go full 2h there are shield breaking weps already in the list.

if you used that weapon in 2 hand anim your arm would fall off.

which is the reason that the GLA was both removed from horse riders (when it used the 1 hand anim) and the lol stabbers had their stabs nerfed - it looked rediculous
