Title: What is Strat to you?
Post by: Osiris on January 16, 2012, 05:10:10 pm
Is Strategus actually a war game or is it more of a Medieval simulator?

At this time you can trade, you can fight, you can raid?

Historically many wars have been fought over trade and plunder.

Are we heading for wars being fought over towns that are in the middle of a major trade route?

My question is what should strat be?

Should it be just an all out brawl between clans for total domination?

Should it be more like Europa Universalis but with bandits vikings and raiders?

with the addition of trade i think we are heading down the Simulator path where trading and plunder is more important then just land. Wars will be fought for real reasons not just for more land that doesnt do much :D

Then again if land was worth more then maybe we would have more wars <3 what do you people think?

All about the battles. Everything else is foreplay.

The problem with strat is that people need to put in alot of effort and coordination into making a force. So they are reaaaaly carefull when going into battle. People prepare and prefer to fight the battles with a forseeable outcome rather than take risks because they need alot of time to make another force. I dont see a way too fix this. Maybe if gear was easier to buy and recruiting was easier clans would have more wars because they could amass forces in a shorter time period and thus not be crippled so much by loosing.

Strat is a sandbox game, you can define it loosely but it is what people make of it

It's all about the battles. It's about fighting with your clans in epic battles and dominating the map. There has to be some effort to get there, but right now it's to much.

To vanquish your enemies and chase them before you, to rob them of their wealth and see those dear to them bathed in tears, to ride their horses and clasp to your bosom their wives and daughters.

A minigame to play when I've been stuck at x1 all night

A peasant warfare simulator that my leaders always yell at me to take part in

A single-player overhaul but I can't be king

take your pick

Where's the poll? :(

Anyway, main reason for Strategus for me has always been the battles, when there is proper leadership of course, meaning organized tactical battles.

the game is too slow and too expensive.
Troops and gear should be expendable!

Movement speed and lockdown times are prettymuch ok now (except horses should be a bigger influence on speed)

If i can ready a 500 troop force in 2 days so can the enemy and nothing has thus changed...
