Title: boar hunting with spear

has anyone of you done that, or participated in some way in it?

If you want to kill an animal don't try to make it more messy than necessary. If you really need to do it to prove yourself make sure it has the same chance of killing you than the other way round.

I heard about group of people which tried that. One died, one ended up on wheelchair and other guys were hospitalized for some time...
They used spears and arrows. Arrows just bounced of the boar and those spears could not withstand first contact with the boar. He just broke them like matches. After that they were helpless.

Krakatit, cite your story. If Africans can still bring down lions with spears, I'm pretty sure a boar wouldn't be impossible. I saw a video of some guy killing an Elk with a spear, pretty interesting.

In Malaysia, I've seen village kids (and I repeat: kids) hunt boars with the equivalent of machetes. They seemed to manage fine.

Yeah i forgot to state the fact that they made those weapons themselves. They were trying to imitate our ancestors.
When i saw the thread name this exact scenario popped out in my mind. I havent event thought that he meant to use
modern weapons...

I have hunted octopuss with a hook on a stick. Very funny, I recommend that. If you like sea hunting :)

They must have smaller boars.  I saw one in Easter Europe holy crap that porker was huge, I would not want to mess with it using a spear unless I absolutely had to.

I dont know other places but in my country a boar is a Very serious thing, and more dangerous if it is a female with baby boars to protect. It will break your legs in less than a second. After that you are just fucked up.

The only wild boars where i live are the mutant cross-bred half-boar-half-farm raised pigs that are giant vicious things that weigh a ton.
These things get on the news for like breaking houses and shit.

But still, a couple dudes with properly made spears and using them correctly would take one down without getting hurt. People who have no idea what they are doing? Yeah they'd die.

Use polearms if you must but whatever you do don't use archery.  Until arrow speed gets a buff boars will react just like any typical cRPG player does when an archer shoots at them, as demonstrated here:

well... if the boar had little health there the shot might have been enough.

The guy was very lucky, never do this.

I heared from a deadly attack from a boar, friend went for fuel station to get gas for the car, as he camed back his girlfriend was killed by a boar..If she has piglets and feel threatened by you,than she will attack. Medieval German hunter used a spear with a piece of wood on the shaft to blockade the boar,as it so furious try to reach the hunter thats it rams itself the spear deeper in the body,crawling with the spear through his whole body to kill you.

the crossbar was a piece of iron or steel, actually.  and boar spears are typically reinforced with banded iron, as the weight and speed of the charging animal tends to break the wooden shaft like a twig.

I can't seem to find the name of the place but there is a place in Quebec (canada) where you can go with a group armed with lances (or bows) to fight ''wild'' boars with a professional boar killer.
