Title: Suggestion to the dear Developers
Post by: Idzo on December 28, 2011, 01:46:29 pm
It's too hard to track all the changes you guys made..
Every patch brings some significant changes to the game. I would like to propose that the developers maintain a changelog / patchnotes
This could be updated on the wikisite or a forum thread locked for all but developers...

This would make our lives much easier...

Since the WSE loader , devs are making regularly minor update , but never say what these update is about. Happy player is player who know what happen.

Very much this. Especially when it's a game as competitive as this mod is. The devs ought to already have an internal changelog (commit-comments to their SVN/Git repository) that can be parsed and published.

So you can all whine more when they change something you don't like? Just as long as they don't do something incredibly over the top, like horse-bumping bumps the rider, no one will notice and we can continue merrily hacking away.

I dislike being frustrated about my weapon not feeling right only to realize they actually changed it in a patch. Could remove all that frustration with some patch notes.

This.

Is the point.

Because the mod lacks changelogs, people always create "has this changed blabla" threads where they mix their impressions, and FOTM equipment is king because we lack objective info. I bet devs both aren't arsed to do it and don't want us to actually know about changes because they don't want us to adapt. And that's a big mistake since the balancing is slowed down that way.

Kafein's point is excellent. The developers MUST have the impressions of the players (at least as it is developed now, by feedback rather than clearly defined goal), and those will be more accurate if we know what's happening, rather than having to guess if anything happened at all in the first place.

most of the patches are minor bugfixes, or, like last time, the addition of the santa costume.

If there's anything changed that needs to be communicated, we do that too.

Is it too hard to communicate that thru change log?

While this looks like a serious post from chadz, and therefore is reassuring, a detailed changelog is still needed. I'm sure you can automate it, and if you guys aren't willing to automate it, just tell me how I can and maybe I'll do it in my spare time :P

Maybe the launcher would have something that shows the changelog? Like, you press "show changelog" and then the devs can type whatever they want there. Probably(?) wouldn't be much effort to get it to say "added santa costume" "broke archer accuracy". Doesn't even have to be precise, anything would be great :D ("item changes", "new armors")
