Out of curiosity, what is your athletics goal ?
I read somewhere that the average is 6.5, but I haven't found any hard numbers to support that.
-
Only a four here, you don't need much agility in a thrower build.

Then how do you flee ? :) Because if you are a thrower, you must be familiar with that.
And don't say that you switch then to your melee weapon, because you said you don't need agility.
And how do you aim correctly without wpf ? Or no need for throwing ?!
-
An average of 6.5 is unrealistic, it would mean a lot of people have 8+ ath and they dont :). You need at least 4, 5 is decent, 6 is good. I only went for 7 ath once and the difference between 6 and 7 is too small to worth it.

yeah, I cant notice any difference between ath 6 and 7 UNLESS I want to go full plate. 5 is ok.
-
Going higher than 7 imo is useful only if you plan to use heavy armor to still be fast.

6 is enough even in heavy armor
-
0 is enough if you have a long weapon.

you stab, I dodge, I jump in your face, you are dead.
I would say 0 is enough if you have über high damage and very good blocking skills.
-
Yeah, you are right, my blocking skills are only mediocre, and so I die often in 1vs1 situations. I don't think this would be much better with 1 or 2 in ATH, so I put all in STR instead. The deaths in 1vs1 are offset by many kills in group situations, such that I can usually manage at least a 2:1 KDR.
-
When you cant block very well then you can use footwork to dodge hits. In your case it might be better to max your athletics when you dont block good.
-
Prepatch I had 8 ath. By that time I could kill an enemy mob of 10+ players, just by running in and out, slashing in random directions. But that's (well, I think it's better that way) not possible anymore.
The only classes that can really survive with low athletics are either pure cav lancer (I'm being dehorsed too often as cav to not invest points in ath), or some weird uber roof sniper, or a pure str/crushtru build. Pikeman is maybe the class needing the most athletics, because you'll have to flee very fast if your mates are killed.
I've seen some people that have very low athletics, still managing to make very good kills in melee situations. I really don't know how they do that.

Add possiblity to remove your vote and option to vote again. I am going for 10 athletics, not 9.
Also, it should be MOVED to General Discussion.

=((1*1)+(2*3)+(4*6)+(5*3)+(6*23)+(15*7)+(8*8)+(9*3)+(10*2))/73
=5.48
Looks like the average is 5.48, I guess people are slower then what I though. :D
-
4 or 8. Everything else doesn't seem to be needed.
-
My goal is to stay on the horse at all time so I have 0.
-
3
-
I'm a Ninja.
-
Not a goal. I already have 10.
-
On my last char back in the day, I had seven athletics, it was very useful, and handy.
So I think I would like to have at least seven ATH again.
-
8 athletics combined with under 6 weight gear makes me pretty much faster than anyone. Next build will be 9 athl.
-
=((1*1)+(3*4)+(4*9)+(5*10)+(6*31)+(7*21)+(8*16)+(9*5)+(10*13))/122
=6.02
A little faster with more people voting.
-
after retiring and rebuilding my char without athletics - i learned something:
in melee, i am beaten easily in duell situations by players i killed in seconds with my 8 athletics char.
i am absolutely unable to reach him when he just retreats between his strikes.
so unless u just stand and block and then hammer him down athletics is the far most important killing and surviving skill.
-
Yeah athletics are most usefull for people with poor blocking abilities.
-
I beg to differ, powerstrike works a lot better at killing that athletics
-
I'm a Ninja.
+1
-
Someone needs to run some tests to see how athletics effects speed per lvl
How much faster is 5 athletics then 4 it would be nice to have a number

10%, I guess
-
0 for cavalry-build
-
Rain has 7, and it's the difference between being able to out-backpedal a mob of enemies and not. This is after ditching the shield, etc.

From the poll, the approximate average athletics score is 6.2

lol seems to be a lot of agi-whores around.. xD

I have 7, 7 and 8 on the 3 toons I play the most. However I truly truly regret it as it seems to be worthless. In my light weight loadout (tribal warrior, leather boots, wisby guantlets, klappvisor) Goretooth in his heavy black armor shit and Cyranule both keep up with me, and they're str builds (Cyran said he has 12 agi, so 4 athletics at the most). I should be outrunning them by a fair margin, instead they can keep up with movement speed no problem. So I've decided I'm going to stop wasting points on what appears to be a semi-useless skill.

It might be because you're overencumbered because of your low str :D

He just might be, I have no problem getting away from people I have 9 ath and even when i where my full banded armor outfitt i can out run anyone. Plus, I may feel like a nat to most of my enemies i distract crowds for a long time by darting between them, It's always a good feeling to cause enemy tk's by moving out of the way. And on another note i found out that if you can get your timing and distance judgment down you can jump within a pole and 2h swing before they can react. The ath helps with jumping alot so use it to get past people faster you may be stalled on landing but the sudden covering of distance helps alot and so does jumping and hitting a shielder in the head over his shield.

18 str isn't exactly "low str"
-
Yes it is, weakling
-
18 STR is half my STR, so it's low. :P
-
30 is pretty much the logical peak of stats given a level 30 cap and without doing crazy gimmicky crap by converting every skill-point you get.
3 is the bottom end.
15-18 would be average, not low :P
