Title: [suggestion] longbowmen clan
Post by: Joxer on February 18, 2011, 11:16:44 pm
Why this is in suggestions. 1) Non-clan people don't usually read the clan sections that much. 2) This is not a discussion of an excisting clan.
Why I don't start it on my own: Cause I know shit about clans or running them.

Now for the ontopic part: I'd like to see longbowmen or yeomen archers clan that goes for historical accuracy. I'd love to give up my twice heirloomed strong bow for that. We already have more or less historical clans such as templars, shogunate etc. I'm thinking it shouldn't be as a strategus faction on its own. It should ally with someone appropriate like templars for example. Any takers?

I think its a good idea, It would be fun to play in a group like that, would look pretty cool to.

Looks ok. I might go for bit more PD and archery points. At the expense of athletics. Longbowman is bit different from your normal archer who does good with high athletics.

This sounds like it could be a cool idea

a clan full of bowmen would either be hilariously ineffectual or have people pulling their hair out and throwing their computers through windows. I'm leaning towards the second one. especially if said clan wasn't restricted to just longbows.

It's not like the fights would be only longbowmen vs. rest. Even in best of cases server like EU1 might have something like 20 of them + rest of the team. In strategus if allied with another clan they would be excellent support. Some clans are mainly infantry and cavarly.

So we have already some interest. Who knows something about managing a clan? We need a leader! I can help out with graphics stuff and so on but I'm not a leader  :cry:

I am sure a squad of good longbowman would do pretty good as mercenaries in strategus, everyone likes good archers. Sadly, the longbow is broken right now,  it shrinks if you hold it in your hand, losing its ability to strike fear into the hearts of shieldless people.

We could always use a longbow squad to support us SeaRaiders, long bows fit quite nicely with the Nord theme (sadly most of us go heavy infantry) ;)

I'm using a longbow on my archer alt (Pecores_Cocaine), and I find it very comfortable to use. I usually make more kills with it than with a strong bow.

My build is the following :

Level 30 (4 420 577 xp)

    * Strength: 21
    * Agility: 21
    * Hit points: 56

    * Converted: 14
    * Ironflesh: 0
    * Power Strike: 0
    * Shield: 0
    * Athletics: 3
    * Riding: 0
    * Horse Archery: 0
    * Power Draw: 7
    * Power Throw: 0
    * Weapon Master: 7

    * One Handed: 1
    * Two Handed: 1
    * Polearm: 1
    * Archery: 164
    * Crossbow: 1
    * Throwing: 1

All my stuff is +0

blue gambeson
leather gloves
blue hose

Longbow
2 slots of bodkin arrows
Longsword

Even with absolute 0 points in melee, it's not that hard to kill the average light armored shielders 1v1. The longsword is very long, very fast and does a good amount of damage.

I think I correctly fit in the theme described here. This alt is already part of Pecores, but if I see you guys around when I play it, I'll gladly stick with a longbow squad.

This build is VERY good for FAILING.

When using longbow, u DONT want more than 6 PD, because you NEED 21 agi, else you are going to be shot faster with better accuracy and more power by Warbowmen.

Seriously, if you want to be an Archer Mercenary, join the Clan of the Bear. All they have are archer mercenaries. ..thats what they do.

I haven't had much fun playing my archer, but that's probably because his build was screwed up.

But I can totally see myself having heaps of fun driving others crazy with a concentrated volley of death from above. Love it.

I would actually join such a clan if you get enough members, just for the simple amusement.
I can easily afford a Longbow, though currently I have ten PD so I will be hitting a little too much like a truck and not shoot very fast.

It would be amusing I think to see a few LongBowmen stick together and send shots. Actually, as a group if we stagger fire we could slightly compensate for the lack of draw speed. I notice that most players on the NA servers seem to be lone wolfs as archers, so acting as a group would be nice (I have seen groups of Xbows amusingly enough more then bowmen).

Instead of staggering fire I'd go for grouping fire. Also I for one play on EU1. It could have both US / EU sub-sections.

Ah, what a shame, I am stuck on the NA as I assume my Ping will make me a TKer on any EU.
Alas, I must wander off to find something else then...

If we can't find a leader to our cause by the time my archer alt hits 31 I shall abandon this idea and go for MW strong bow instead. I don't play it that often but it is already half way between 30 and 31 atm.

I must say you came a little too late. I was leading an archers only clan, but due to the small interest in it i disbanded.

mm i could lead your archers into battle ;) btw i iz hellfire88 ingame, and id love to ride/run toward the enemy with mah group of archers, and give them a nice taste of hardened steel to their throats from a ridicoulessly long distance ^

havent lead a clan in warband yet, tho ive been admin on several servers from aoc and battlegrounds 2.

My suggestion for allowed armors for historical authencity:

Tunic with Green Cape
Red Tunic
Robe
Tunic with vest
Leather Armor
Leather Jerkin
Ragged Outfit
Padded Armor
Red Tunic over Mail
Tourney Armor

I have absolutely no idea of this so feedback. Also I wouldn't go for black color theme cause most illustrations of longbowmen seem to have them in english color ie. Red / Yellow dragons. Tourney armor would be the perfect 'official armor' for us?

Foot armor:

Wrapping Boots
Ankle Boots
Leather Boots
Mail Chausses
Splinted Greaves

Head armor:

Woolen Cap
Padded Coif
Nordic Leather Helmet
Skullcap
Mail Coif
Norman Helmet
Nordic Footman Helmet
Segmented Helmet

Also only leather gloves. "official set" would then be in my opinion:

Leather gloves
Mail Coif
Splinted Greaves
Tourney Armor

Leather gloves
Mail Coif
Splinted Greaves
Tourney Armor

id prefer the studded leather over mail instead of the tourney armor to be honest^ but the tourney armor might be more fitting, the rest sounds good

With all the Archer Hate here, I am willing to join the NA side of the clan. Other clans are present on both servers, so we can be too!

I figure it is my duty to retire and keep playing an archer, that way the general populace can learn to develop better anti-archer tactics. :lol:

EDIT: What would the clan-tag be, or suggested name?

Not thought that far yet. Weekend coming. Then I'll have time. Steeldevil wants black armors and flamberges so I think he shouldn't lead this specific clan. He can make his own. I want pure historical accuracy thing. Banner should be something that is either 100% copy of history or at least within the heraldic laws.

Not to be 'that guy' but this doesnt belong in this section unless you are requesting the devs to make a longbow clan for you

and btw

Longbows rule, go to hell warbow my old friends, get some style
