I think this would be a nice idea honestly.

I'd kind of like to know why this hasn't been done already.

Transfer all your looms/items/gold to a friend, delete your main, make alt main, transfer stuff back to your new main.

The devs don't want you to transfer stuff between chars, so this isn't going to happen.

When I was new I made a STF and made it my main without known what it was. I then played an alt and nearly retired with it until my clan told me to start in strat. Then I realized that I'd messed up xD. It's really stupid though that this isn't added tbh. I wasted a lot of time on that alt just to have to start again.

This has nothing to do with transferring things over, just simply making another char a main after the main is deleted, no item/gold transfer.

Wait, did you not read the first line of my post? If you can make an alt a main character, you can transfer items and gold between characters. All you need is a friend willing to hold onto your stuff until you can transfer it to your new main.

Ah, thats what you meant, sorry, i've never actually done the trade thing so i had no clue what you where talking about.

Simply make it to where, any item traded from a recently deleted main that gets put onto an alt that then becomes a main (or a main that was an alt, switched, then items traded) are x1.5-x2-x4-x6(per loom) the cost to upkeep till level 25. Its a bit much, but it would cut back a lot i think.

Ain't gonna happen.
There are exceptions for people like Maximus101 as in if your main is gen 1 and you have an alt at gen2.
In that case you might get it switched because there is no real benefit from it and it saves you time.

If there ever is a system to "recover" your alt's heirlooms, it will most likely not involve deleting your main.
But don't get your hopes up.
