erm company of heroes changed the typical formula for RTS
CoH was a WW2 version of Dawn of War.
There have been plenty of innovative strategy titles, though it depends on what you see as innovative, i guess.

I'm sure I've played similar/almost indentical games before it's release.
Ground Control was first such RTS, I think.

Total War games ( mainly M2TW Kingdoms with mods ) are the only strategy games I have really played alot over the past years and enjoyed alot, most strategy games are boring as fuck, maybe I have just lost interest in alot of the typical RTS styles.
Anyone knows if you can still play AoE 2 multiplayer non lan. If so, I suggest we do a cRPG AoE 2 match!

BF3 don't need mods, it's fantastic as it is.
