Title: C&C: Generals 2 announced
Post by: Leshma on December 11, 2011, 03:34:59 pm
Powered by Frostbite 2. Lead designer is Jon Van Caneghem (Heroes of Might & Magic series, Might & Magic series, original King's Bounty). It's gonna be awesome!

If they start making other games with Frostbite 2, why not MnB 2?:/

That would be the game of the century.

Strategy is the only Game-genre where there were no real awesome games or Steps forward since along time.

IN every other genre, there were some REALLY nice games in the last years, I mean REALLY awesome games.

For Strategy, the only game to be considered at least halfly innovative and new is Ruse, which wasnt THAT good to be true.

I dont trust in Strategy games anymore and I dont buy them.I prefer playing Warcraft III or similar over any of the new Strategy games out there.

erm company of heroes changed the typical formula for RTS, its a great game and is named on metacritic as the best RTS of all time i think, yet i think DOW2 (the next game of its type) is just made for casuals, its too easy, RTS get ruined when it gets watered down for ease of play, then simply gets boring as it has no complicity or depth

It did? I think not.

I'm sure I've played similar/almost indentical games before it's release.

CoH was a WW2 version of Dawn of War.

There have been plenty of innovative strategy titles, though it depends on what you see as innovative, i guess.

About this - interested, i liked generals, this looks pretty sweet, tbh.

At the first one- yeah ,that was what I was talking about.Pretty much nothing big new since 2004 or so.

And I havent seen those s ocalled innovative Strategy games in the last years. The most innovative Ive seen was Ruse.Otherwise the same shit cooked up again.

You know why there hasnt been a new AoE or Empire Earth in years.Besides a graphical update there is nothing really new to implement.

Honestly, the first thing I thought about when seeing that trailer was C&C Renegade. Which was an okey game but nothing special. The C&C franchise have been in the gutter so long I've lost all hope for it. Maybe this will be a fresh start *shrug*.

Ground control was hardly RTS, it was more of a tactics game, you did not produce any units or controlled any resources there.

DOW1 was a non factor compared to COH (made by same people still), they actually still support COH and it has a nice community/e-sports scene (well alot of tournaments etc, just look at http://www.gamereplays.org/companyofheroes/ )

if anything RTS is getting more stupid, DOW2 was a joke it was dumbed down, clearly influenced by popular games such as DOTA and LOL where a hero unit is the only thing you control with spells/abilities and items, for the worse i think RTS is going to tone its self down and have these derp heroes. If you look at the main FPS scene they are all trying to copy and chase COD's audience which in turn just produces clones and simpleton games *cough* BF3 *cough*

mmmm Frostbite 2 :3

if they use frostbyte theres basicly no chance of MOD'ing or MOD tools being released at all, theres none for BC2 and BF3 and they are massively requested by the community

Total War games ( mainly M2TW Kingdoms with mods ) are the only strategy games I have really played alot over the past years and enjoyed alot, most strategy games are boring as fuck, maybe I have just lost interest in alot of the typical RTS styles.

AoE2 was and still is the best strategy game for me.

Anyone knows if you can still play  AoE 2 multiplayer non lan. If so, I suggest we do a cRPG AoE 2 match!

Think i had about 1300idh battles fought in c&c generals and zero hour

Been waiting for them to quit the red alert fail series to bring back c&c generals again

cool. well i actually used to like playing generals with my mates back when I was 15 or whatever, the zero hour expac made it x2 more interesting. my first c&c was red alert on ps1 but my favourite was probably tiberium sun on pc ;D

I don't really like RTS games these days, maybe this will change my mind. I lost alot of faith in bioware after recently trying out the old republic and dragon age.

you can use garena and stuff played with some guys about a year ago, that game is still the BEST. too laggy tho. someone should make just make a updated version with good modern internet playability. that age of empires mmo is bullshit.

Best mods for Total War, compiled for your amusement.

For Medieval 2(order of badassery, top 3 are equal):
Stainless Steel (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=417435) - Enhanced native campaign, basically.
Third Age (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=374565) - Lord of the Rings.
Broken Crescent (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=448564) - Eastern Roman Empire to Hindus. Medieval time period.
The Last Kingdom (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=467534) - Dark ages mod. British Isles.
Deus Lo Vult (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=219295) - Enhanced Native
THERA (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=343327) - Completely made up mod mixing many different cultures in to one map. Quite amusing.
Paeninsula Italica(beta) (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=457439) - Start of the Roman empire. Situated on the Italian Peninsula, in case your stupid.

Rome: Total War:
Roma Surrectum (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=386559) - Epic mod, nuff said.
Europa Barbarorum (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=207235) - Also an excellent mod. Both of these are enhanced native in essence.

Empire: Total War:
Darthmod (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=493773) - Enhanced native mod. Adds a ton of new troops 'n stuff.

Shogun 2: Total War:
Darthmod (http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=494285) - Copy pasta. Enhanced native mod. Adds a ton of new troops 'n stuff.

Have fun.

And so that I'm not completely off topic. Something about C&C? Seems cool, I guess. Played C&C and Red Alert back in the day.

It's not C&C nor Red Alert. It's Generals.

C&C is NOD vs GDI, Red Alert is C&C spin-off and it's about Soviets vs Allies (in technologically advanced post WWII - Cold War parallel universe with lasers, robots and shit).

Generals is C&C spin off and it's set in near future where USA, China and GLA (mix of Russia and middle eastern terrorists) are available factions.

Generals is basically like battlefield rts with a little bit of sci-fi flavour. I hope they won't add too much of it in Generals 2.

Geez. I loved the GLA in the first game.

Especially the Marauder tanks that upgraded by salvaging from destroyed vehicles. And they built bases AoE style, with workers forced in without shoes.

+Their music is awesome.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fC7O8WbFNIc&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fC7O8WbFNIc&feature=related)

FOR THE GLA!!! AK 47-S FOR EVERYONE!!!!

(Also I love how they're called "Global Liberation Army", and they mass murder innocent people for no reason with toxins and scuds. There was even a GLA mission where the player had to kill a number of civilians with suicide bombers and toxin trucks. Sadly the media and events forced the developers to switch it with some mediocre ending for the GLA.)

First strategy game for me where I really liked every side. Even the chinese commies. They had some amazing battle music too.

GLA (Global Liberation Army, such an apropriate name for mix of terrorists and commies :D) was sweet to play, with those rocket trucks and other kewl man made weapons but...

...China was fuckin OP, just like IRL!

Rebel unit is Tavuk himself!

...China was fuckin OP, just like IRL!

China?

I'd say US is way more op than them. Depends on individual skill, but chinese number spam can be taken out with agile GLA units, god I hated to fight against rocket buggies as China that kited my tanks to death.

I can see what you mean, they're really op in good hands. Just spam hackers, and if you have the expansion you get a helicopter version of the Overlord tank. Those installable propaganda towers are the only annoying thing in China, imo. Now THAT'S OP.
(3 overlord tanks, one Heals, one gets the gattling, and one can get the third one I forgot.)

US would just wtfbomb them like IRL.

But I loved their nuke cannons, migs and that Dragon Tank with the ability to put on a firewall. Literally.  8-)
Looked epic with Black Napalm upgrade.

PS: Jarmen Kell, anyone? He's the shit.

my favourite all time generals momment. playing against my friend, he is GLA he makes loads of those armed mobs and sends them at my base in a huge zerg. But I build fuel air bomb jets, and bam: the whole screen is covered in thier burning bodies. GG
