So..my good ol' (basically free) wired microsoft mouse just went and died on me, and I'd like some ideas out there for a replacement. I don't really care about the cost, but I'd like to keep it under hundreds of dollars, of course , and cheaper is better
EDIT: So yeah, I think anything under 50 would be within my price range.
-
dude i am using some weird laser mouse whatever high sensitivity crap and just keep on failing. i want my old crappy mouse back : /
-
Yeah, I've never used a wireless mouse, but I've never heard anything good about them.

Get a Logitech G400 (http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Black-Buttons-Optical-Gaming/dp/B005I9XREO) if you want a good, reliable mouse with your standard button setup that's like 40 bucks. Has everything you'll ever need; anything else is for show really. My roommate (and everyone else) has a Razor DeathAdder (http://www.amazon.com/Razer-Deathadder-Infrared-Gaming-RZ01-00151400-R3/dp/B002Q4U5DK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1323405920&sr=8-1) and I use a NAOS 5000 (http://www.amazon.com/Mionix-Naos-Laser-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B003YJFV94/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1323405888&sr=1-1).
-
I use Logitech MX518 and it's great, G400 seems it's an improvement from it (and also cheap), so I'd go for what bilwit said.
-
Get a Sharkoon Fireglider, its a full scale Gaming mouse for about 20 bucks.
I use it for 2 years now, its still kickin´
edit: just for clarification, I mean this one: http://www.amazon.com/Sharkoon-FireGlider-LASER-GAMING-MOUSE/dp/B001QYN9ES/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1323440328&sr=1-1-catcorr
Not available at Amazon.com currently, but I bet you could get it elsewhere.

It's a wireless mouse and its working fine for me.

Sadly, the only place I see it in stock (USA) has it at 30 bucks.
-
Well...I got mine for 23 Euros so that would probably be the Dollar Equivalent :D
Its still a very good mouse. You wont get a mouse equally good for 30 dollar(At least I couldnt find one back then, and i searched for about a month before I made my decision).

Seems odd to me that so many sites I've searches are out of stock :\
Not to mention that the only sites I can find are in Australia..
-
Might be they stopped producing it or something and the Shops who still have it only have Remains.
Dunno...I cant find any new mouse on Sharkoons Homepage either...
Bit weird.
/edit: Amazon.de still has it^^
They also ship to america as far as i know :D
Oh and Amazon.co.uk also has it, and i know for fact that they ship. They even have the Black version a bit cheaper.
-
Just tried to checkout from amazon.co.uk, and they didn't like my address :(

-
Yeah, if you are really interested in it you could ask per E-mail if it will be available again anytime soon :D or you just get another mice.

Le sigh, I live chat with amazon, and OF COURSE! I get an Indian (no offense meant xD)
You are now connected to Anil Kumar from Amazon.com.
Me:Will the Sharkoon FireGlider LASER GAMING MOUSE 3600 DPI be available before Christmas? And if not, soon?
Anil Kumar:Hello, my name is Anil from Amazon.com.
Hi, Spencer.
Me:Hello
Anil Kumar:I'll be happy to look into your question.
Please wait while I check this for you.
Me:You got it
Anil Kumar:Unfortunately, we don't have any more stock of Sharkoon FireGlider LASER GAMING MOUSE right now, and we're not sure if or when we'll be able to get more.
I'm sorry about that.
Our supply of some items is limited, and these products sell out quickly.
We rely on Manufacturer's supply, We'll update the information on our website as soon as we get the item in stock.
Me:Alright man, thanks for the help
-
lol that´s...Almost too much of a clichee.
-
Yeah, I saw Kumar and started busted out laughing.
-
I wonder if he is actually Indian or if it´s just an Easteregg from Amazon :D

I'm actually surprised they put his "real" name, and not something americanized, like billy.
-
Amazon is just awesome.
-
Oh my god, you spoke with an indian!!!! JEEZ can't they even get proper americans these days, i don't want to be told by no indian that i can't get what i want!!

It's a bloody A4tech mouse with a fancy name...
http://www.amazon.de/A4Tech-XL-747H-schnurgebunden-Laser-Gaming-Maus/dp/B002V9WYPM
Personally I would skip it although I know many people who are satisfied with A4tech mice.
DeathAdder looks really sweet especially since I'm used to wireless mouse and DA has both options (cable and wireless connection).
I'm still using some MS old Wireless mouse (first or second generation) with 800dpi and it still works fine. Recently I've wasted 25 euros (35$) on some shity japanese mouse with high dpi... next time I'm definately buying some real brand like Logitech, MS, Razer or Saitek.
Steelseries and Roccat are great as well but too expensive for my taste.
-
After supermarket mouses for years I bought a Logitech G5. You can get it pretty cheap second hand and is still a rocking mouse. Find a good reviews site, that will probably help you out a lot more than everyone being a fanboy of his own mouse.
-
lol that´s...Almost too much of a clichee.
Come on, i had to use customer service, which was totally indian, complete with 90's songs in the background in uber low quality, whilst i wait. More clichee than anything you've seen in the movies even...
I used to have a nice Logitech wireless mouse (the wifi version), it was actually super good for gaming, way better than any wired mouse i've used. Man, i just hate wires.

what I use ^
It's awesome. Customisable to fit your hand. Deathadder is also amazing, but personally I prefer this one.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826146009 looks pretty good imo for it's price. I might go with that.
Yep yep, it's been purchased and should be shipped tomorrow :D

After using a mouse with high dpi I couldn't stand one with low dpi it's just too slow.
The advantage of high dpi is I don't need to stretch my arm fully for my mouse cursor to reach the other end of the screen (21" screen not a big screen but not small either) I only need to move it slightly which is perfect for me since else I would always find my mouse stuck somewere on my desk when playing multiplayer then rage when I can't move the mouse properly (Which happens sometimes because of my xbox 360 joystick).
Some people like myself don't have huge spaces on their desk and high dpi is the perfect solution.
And anyways they are cheaper now you have no excuse!! why should I stretch half my arm to move the cursor from one side to the other? :P
-
Or you could just raise the sensitivity in-game/in the windows options, instead of raising DPI.
-
Or you could just raise the sensitivity in-game/in the windows options, instead of raising DPI.
Thats not the same at all.
To get across my whole Screen, I need to pull my mouse like 2-3 cm over my mousepad. So while People with the usual mice with about 800 dpi throw their mouse around their table like crazy to turn and such I just give a little impulse to my arm and I aim where I want to aim.
Once you go high dpi, you never want to go back.
-
Well you guys getting me horny with all the dpi talk... I never really knew what the difference between high dpi and high sensitivity is, but it sure sounds like it's worth it.
-
DPI and Sensitivy both mean a longer Onscreendistance traveled per cm mouse movement, however more DPI also increase accuracy, which is really important for example shooters.
-
Damn. Well I own an MX518, was thinking of getting G400 which has double the dpi.
-
Well the mx518 already has 1800 dpi, hasnt it?
It really depends on your preferences.I use 2000dpi atm and Its very nice to play for example CSS or BF3 because once you get used to it, you will be aiming a lot quicker than an enemy with a lot less dpi.
Im trying 3600dpi now, though.

Yep 1800 dpi. G400 has 3600. Was thinking of getting it then just lowering my sensitivity by about half (because I already play most of my games on high sens). That in turn should increase smoothness and precision I guess?
-
Yep it will.
-
So what's better, lowering sens or dpi or finding the right balance, and why?
-
I cant explain it very well because Im no expert, but as far as I know increasing sensitivy makes your mouse skip pixels on the screen, decreasing accuracy, while DPI doesnt do such a thing.
So its better to put your sensitivy down to half and get a mouse with more DPI if you care for Accurate mouse movement.
-
Ah I imagined it was something like that. Anyway, I ordered a Razer Deathadder now :)
-
Good choice :D
