Title: Constant freezing
Post by: Teeth on November 23, 2011, 08:58:22 pm
I've run into a very annoying problem recently. It doesn't happen always, but when it starts happening it happens a lot. My screen freezes for 2 or even 5 seconds. While it does that it remembers my input from the moment it starts freezing. So if I move forward to an enemy group and it freezes I keep moving forward for the duration of the freeze, mostly resulting in my death.

I was hoping you computer geeks could tell me what my problem is.

I doubt you have had it the same way as I have it sometimes, it is pretty much unplayable. On my old computer it used to do very small little freezes, pretty much always, but they didnt happen all that often. And atleast with those freezes I could still backpedal and downblock.

I dont have this problem always. But for some reason it starts happening and then it happens a lot, like every 20 seconds. and the freezes take much longer. Worst thing though is that I can't do anything. If I happen to move forward, I just keep moving forward.

Let me see:
Freezez for 10 seconds where you can't do anything and can't change anything and your character continues doing his last command?
Occurs randomly but often enough to be an issue?

Sounds a lot like what I have.

Had what you have, and it's pretty much unplayable. Just reseting the router worked for me though.

How can you live with that? One of those freezes on the wrong moment, which is about 80% of your cRPG time, I am always either fighting or close to the fight, and you die, have to wait for 3 minutes. If you think that is acceptable, suit yourself. I´m going to try to fix this problem and if I cant my cRPG session ends whenever this starts.

Like doing it once and it being gone forever, or doing it everytime you get that problem?

Everytime it happens. It fixes it for me though, and it's therefore a fair amount of time between each time it happens.

I get this problem when my graphics card gets too hot. When I take steps to remedy that the problem goes away... just another idea for ya.

How does one remedy that?

Clean out all of the built up gunk in the interior of the computer and make sure the interior fans are clear of build up so that it is getting the proper air flow.

To take it a step farther, you can take off the side panel and put a giant fan right up to it, which is what I do. If it's still too hot you can try putting ice in front of the fan like an old timey air conditioner.

Just reach in and touch the graphics card when you are having this problem and if it's super hot to the touch, this may be the issue.

I noticed an improvement after turning Texture Detail down in the launch options. I think that makes it so you load fewer textures into memory or does something to the LOD on models at distance

Anyway it might be a placebo for me but it seems better after turning that down to 50%

Get the low-res texture pack. Fixed them for me.

Havn't had any lagspikes since I got my new computer.

Yay. \o/

Try this first.

You started experiencing this lately, as in this worked fine before?

You need to check if your gfx card isn't overheating and/or if the fans are not clogged.

I had something similar, but it meant a huge drop in fps for me. I would start out at playing 120 fps and after some time it dropped down to 4-8 fps.
Everybody told me it was my gfx card, but even with the case opened, everything cleaned out and a card temp of about 54 C it would still happen.
I had to turn down my graphics a lot (from max to just below medium), eventhough I had played 10 months on the highest settings.

Also, use the soundpack Socrates made.

It works like a charm, especially if you combine it with the low-res pack.

Well, I got a new computer. It was not built by a professional, but it should be okay. Still I'm kinda afraid something might be messed up in there. It has only happened to me on this computer.

That low res texture pack, is it ugly? Cause having to downgrade my graphics while I got a better pc isn't exactly what I want.

GPU Temperature is 45 degrees celsius when playing. Doubt thats too hot.

Try reinstalling gfx drivers, maybe something went wrong. Check you have the latest ones.

Just wanted people to know that the optimized sound pack fixed my problems. Installed it, never thought off this again, it ran perfectly. Installed the launcher, soundpack is gone, freezing like a bitch.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

After the patch I got those lovely freezes again, thought the patch somehow uninstalled the sound optimization pack, reinstalled it but they are here to stay it seems.

Still weird how they just start sometimes and then don't stop, I don't have them always.

You don't need to spend hundreds on shiny hardware to get top-notch graphics. The good-ol' monster high-end cards do just as good as today's high-end on all recent games. I play BF3 to maximum detail with that old, dusty and clumsy thing. Getting higher is just for upping the screen resolution, but the effect of increasing dpi becomes negligible at current levels.

Sound optimization pack helped me out alot. I suggest you all try it too. Way less freezing.

Indeed.

These neo-modern-nuclear-powered GPU's are only handy if you play in like 32389728497x219837238472 resolutions/use multimonitors for gaming, (but that's silly imo) ergo my 1280x1024 resolution, which was quite huge few years ago, couldn't even use most of it's power.

PS: Yes, the resolution was exaggerated.

maybe an audio driver issue. i had many with realtek chipsets. anyway what OS? xp vista or 7? how much ram?

Windows 7 32 bit, 4gb ram

It was fixed I think, no freezes for several sessions, after I installed the sound optimisation pack. Then I got the new patch and the cRPG launcher, now I have those freezes again. Reinstalled the pack, but no cigar.

then it's not a graphic related stutter/freezes. do you launch cRPG with the new cmp launcher?

a 6990 for warband is a total waste. i had 120 fixed fps at max detail, 1680x1050, 4x antialiasing, 16x anisotropic, with my old 4870. now a good 6950 can run almost any new game at decent details.

i have a 6970 and runs skyrim at max detail plus some other eyecandy .ini tweaks at 60fps with vsync on, x4 antialiasing, fxaa on, x16 anisotropic.

6990, GTX580 cards are only needed with 40" high resolution monitors/TVs or eyefinity/nvidia multimonitor setups.

to max cRPG graphic settings, an E8400+old ATI 4870/old nvidia GTX260 is more than enough.
