ok, as my last poll only had 5 options, and people kept complaining, i've made this one.

Pretty simple; which 2H sword is best?

Great sword, long sword, flamberge; in terms of game balance, effectiveness/cost.

If there is a ''best'' sword in game then what is the reason to have all other swords too? All those swords have their downsides and upsides like speed,damage,reach,weight etc.. Its all up to the player and his/her fighting style.

Can't heirloom the practice sword, I wanted to and was disappointed I couldn't :(

That said, I vote for the MANCLEAVER!  Really it's not the best as the unbalanced tag and lack of a thrust are major drawbacks but damn if it doesn't have style out the ass.

Got myself a balanced german and 2handed now. Masterworks incoming.
Like em both.

Had my hands on a masterwork miadao (superb), masterw. HeavyBastard - (way better than katana) and mw. Flamberge which is really easymode when played right.

German/Danish Greatsword, depending whether you like to stab more or slash more for battles and Longsword for dueling. I have Masterwork German but I will switch to polearms next retirement as there are weapons like Long Hafted Blade/Glaive/Long Hafted Spiked Mace that are better than any 2h sword :rolleyes:

My vote is for the Morningstar (not a sword, I know :p) which is curiously absent from the list of choices :(  I've recently discovered this wonderful weapon on my new 2h/Xbow toon.  I'm in love :)

I like the longsword, just has enough length to beat one handers and is still pretty fast. Katana is too short but it looks nice.

2H Swords Сlassification:
Very Light: Practice Longsword - Very Low Damage.
Light: Onehanded/Twohaded - Katana, Longsword, Heavy Bastard Sword, Bastard Sword - Half2H
Medium: Danish Greatsword, German Greatsword, Sword of War, Highland Claymore, Great Sword, Heavy Great Sword, Two Handed Sword (Low Price, High among medium speed) - True 2H
Saber Type: Nodachi, Miaodao, War Cleaver, Dadao - Not the effective Thrust Damage.
Heavy: Flamberge - Heavy and Long as Polearm.

Went for the danish great sword after the patch nerfed 2handers by their awesome stab animations and the MW german great sword by 7 pierce damage.
I actually regret it and want it back now ;_;

So, yeah, german great sword it is.

i dont get why the heavy bastard isnt more popular than the longsword..
its alot cheaper for -1 (one) lenght.

They really want the extra 1 length for twelve hundred more gold that much I guess... I personally would rather use that money saved for nicer gauntlets *shrugs*

And the model is alot better looking, the longsword looks so dirty and weird.

Longsword looks less fragile but thicker and broader and I dont like at all. Heavy bastard sword is for me.

Atm, I'd say Danish, Miadao or Longsword are the best swords.
Sword of War, Heavy Bastard Sword and Katana are the most stylish ones.

And personally I use a katana. Voted Danish because I could only choose one. But Miadao, Danish or Longsword would be my choices for best weapons. Couldn't say which of these is the best.

I think 2h swords are pretty balanced, each one has it's advantages, there isn't a best all-around sword like the German was pre-nerf.

Longsword and Heavy Bastard Sword have great speed, decent damage, a fast stab even with the new animation due to their speed, but lack lenght.
Miaodao has great speed and good damage, but it has no stab and compared to the greatswords it's significantly shorter.
Claymore has good speed, great damage (if MW it has the same damage as a normal Flamberge), decent lenght.
Nodachi has decent speed, great damage, great lenght - it offers 5 more lenght then the Claymore at the price of -1 speed and no stab.
German and Danish have good speed, good damage, great lenght but also a high upkeep.
Sword of War and Greatsword are the counterparts for Danish/German, offering 1 extra speed and lower upkeep at the price of -3 lenght and -1 damage.

Hey, lets not forget sword balance is still alot better than it used to be.  Yeah sure Longswords are most popular on NA and Danish on EU but there is alot of variety behind them.

Decided purely by looking at stats and seeing it in the hands of enemies I'd say the Claymore is the best 2h sword. Also using this thread to whine about the underpoweredness of the katana. You ninja hating bastards.
