Title: Good build?
Post by: Bl0rk on February 12, 2011, 04:54:44 pm
Hey everybody,

so, I created a really useless character and died a lot with it... But now, I have my damn 8735000 experience and I'm ready for generation 2. I saw Blackstones build in the "Post Your Character Builds" thread and I find it very interesting, I'm planning to form my next character like it...
But I have a few questions about it and Blackstone doesn't answer the PM I wrote to him...  :(

So here is the build:
(click to show/hide)

_________________________________________

1. Isn't the character kinda weak, due to there aren't any points in ironflesh? Or does the heavy armor corrigates this fact?

2. What should be skilled first when I use this build? First strength and power strike? Or agility and weapon master?

3. Should I take a poleaxe or a two handed sword in secondary mode (so I can use it in future 2 hand builds...), or aren't they useful in polearm builds?

4. At all... Is this a good build? Or is a different polearm build much better???

Greetz,

Bl0rk  :D

First of all, when making builds, always use 31 as a standard, lvl 33 takes way too much time to get to.

Secondly, I see no reason why you should have that xbow, accuracy will suck, so will the damage, you don't need it, it's a waste of money.

Everything else is fine.

Good luck getting to 33, see you in 3-4 months. Also for 209 WPF you need WM 12.

Oh well, I don't want to raise to 33, wanted to stop at 31, two attribute / skillpoints don't do such a great difference, do they?

Also for 209 WPF you need WM 12.

Oh, so the character build isn't up-to-date?  :?

Secondly, I see no reason why you should have that xbow, accuracy will suck, so will the damage, you don't need it, it's a waste of money.

Really? Because yesterday I picked up a siege crossbow (guess that was the name...) and the crosshair was very small and I had no problem shooting a guy who was like 50 yards away... so as a secondary...no?

Why 20 str? 18 is al that you need for 6 PS. And that gear seems like it would be rather expensive. So unless you have a nice big reserve you won't be able to sustain it for long. Personally I aim for 30k worth of gear. That still lets me make money. Then once I have 20k in reserve I start switching between gear anywhere from 30-60k.

Well, personally I think it's better to consider level 30 as a standard. If you don't plan to play on lvl 31 (insta-retirement), you'll spend half your playing time at level 30, so it's best to fine tune your build for that level.

Is this a durable build? Or does it sucks like hell?

Convert 6 skill points, get 6 Ironflesh.

But that would mean, that I'm not able to have athletics or weapon master on 7....

Not really usefull cause u loose range to polearm animation.

Good build, you might want to think about 21str 18agi if u play with poleaxe cause u want to do 1hit kills  :D

You'd have that at 31. Athletics 7 from 6 is a really minor improvement, as are 9 WPP.

Yea but with 18 agi I get only 6 WM and so less Polearms skill so I don't know...
I think I will go with this one:
18 str
21 agi

8 converted

7 wm
7 athletics
6 power strike
3 iron flesh

all wpf polearm and you're good to go

And to this:

Not really usefull cause u loose range to polearm animation.

Which polearm would you recommend me? I won't take the long hafted because it looks ugly as hell imo, also the scythe, the glaive and the voulge...

That's exactly my build, the only difference is I have 3 shield instead of IF and 2H instead of polearms. It's a good build, if you plan to retire as soon as you hit 31 there is no point to go for a level 31 build. And stick to polearms, they are much better than 2H these days.

So how much do the additional 9 weapon proficiency points matter?

So, Xant, in your opinion it would be this build:
(click to show/hide)
Right ?

EDIT: So what now? "STR 21; AGI 18" or "STR 18; AGI 21"? And is the German Poleaxe a good choice, as it costs over 10k?

I play with a mighty german poleaxe and I am unsatisfied with it, its too slow, too short & too costly compared to other polearms and 2h weapons. If you dont want to be cavalry i suggest you become 2h, as there are currently no better polearms with style.

I'd personally go for 20/18 bl0rk, and 21/18 at level 31.

I suggest you get over the looks, Long Hafted Blade, Glaive and Long Hafted Spiked Mace are the best polearms.

Hi Blork,

The original build I posted was made before the cRPG set of patches (see date of post), and is no longer possible given the high xp requirements and repair costs. That said, I also posted a second post patch build on another page of the same thread, but am still experimenting and have not settled down yet with one build. With reference to crossbow, I continue to enjoy using it and have no points into it. The increased reload speed and minimal reticule advantage from invested points is, in my opinion, better spent on making a single weapon more deadly. I now also have an alt character in cRPG using a two handed blunt weapon, and so far am enjoying it as well (less reach than polearm, but faster animation as already referenced).

I hope this helps, and good luck enjoying the variety of build possibilities that cRPG has.

Alright, then I think I will go with the Long Hafted Spiked Mace, as it has the highest speed rating over the three you mentioned and it has a chance to knockdown.

Or... 2h...

If you dont want to be cavalry i suggest you become 2h, as there are currently no better polearms with style.

But...

stick to polearms, they are much better than 2H these days.

Man, you confuse me  :? :D

I'd personally go for 20/18 bl0rk, and 21/18 at level 31.

Ok, then I think I will also do that, so I don't convert 8 but 6 and put more into ironflesh, like you said some posts before.

EDIT: @ Blackstone: Ok sorry I didn't take a look at the date, my fault...

Long Hafted Blade, Glaive and Long Hafted Spiked Mace are probably the best melee weapons atm, but they will be nerfed and they have just no style. I dont play them..

Really? But only with a solid multiplier, I would say...  :? Otherwise you'll make some loss with a gear worth of 30k, I guess...

When playing good I make money in 50k gear, so with 30k gear you don't need a huge multiplier.

Long Hafted Blade has just no style?

When playing good I make money in 50k gear, so with 30k gear you don't need a huge multiplier.

If you use the official numbers (5% repair price, 4% break chance) the math tells that you can afford the upkeep of 25k equipment.
The average multiplier is probably somewhere between 1,8 and 2,2 depending on your skills and luck, so id say 40-50k worth of equipment and you'll be fine

Long Hafted Blade, Glaive and Long Hafted Spiked Mace are probably the best melee weapons atm, but they will be nerfed and they have just no style. I dont play them..

i'd say the greatswords are better; they have slightly less speed, but more swing dmg, much more thrust dmg and their lolstabs have longer range than the weaps you just mentioned
