Title: Request for chadz: Multiplayer Skyrim Mod?
Post by: RipperX on November 12, 2011, 03:58:01 am
Would you ever consider making a Multiplayer mod for Skyrim?
I'm hearing rumors of multiplayer potential with the game and thought of you.

Don't abandon M&B of course but was wondering from a programmers eyes
how hard it would be to accomplish this, especially with the opensource modding
tools Bethesda is making available. Just a thought...

All the best,

Skyrim has no multiplayer interface AT ALL (because Bethesda sucks balls)
What you're asking for is impossible

Quote
"We always look into multiplayer, put lots of ideas on the whiteboard and it always loses. It's not that we don't like it. I can think of ways it would be a lot of fun."

According to Howard. creating multiplayer would also pull the development team from the single-player portion of the game and jeopardise the quality of the solo experience

True stupidity uttered by a lazy cheap stupid dev who is stuck in the past.  Multiplayer drives game sales and keeps games alive.

They "say" it's not possible, but anything is possible, and that's why I'm asking someone who actually writes code.

I can give you a box of tools to fix up my car, but without tires you arent going to be driving it anywhere.

You cant just mod multiplayer into a single player game, multiplayer is closely tied with how the game functions.  Only game that has done it to my knowledge is a mod for GTA 4, which I dont think any good (worse than APB gameplay).

I think it is "possible" but like you say it wouldn't translate over very well. The server would have to be a complete beast, and the amount of data that would have to be sent back to clients would be insane. The butterflies would lag the shit out of the game.

Skyrim's combat is complete and utter garbage anyways. Why would you want to play with other people with that?

+1. I wont be getting skyrim cause the combat is retarted. No mounted combat and the archery is bs too. They should just remake the world with more realistic and flat features. Add mounted combat and redo archery + melee like warband has it. That's a mod I'd pay money for.

Ever heard of Counter Strike?

And yeah as posted there is a somewhat useful multiplayer mod for TES4. I doubt chadz would be able to pull it off, but there might be other people who will be giving a multiplayer mod for TES5 :D

What he ment was multiplayer mod for a game which had no multiplayer.

Counter strike was a mod for half-life which already had multiplayer.

There are several multiplayer mods that have added mp functionality to GTA Vice City and San Andreas. They are "simpler" games than Skyrim though, and it took several years to polish into something playable.

This. As with Oblivion, mods will be needed to have an interesting combat system. I just hope Skyrim is as moddable as Oblivion.

Theres multiplayer mods for most iterations of Fallout. A fully singleplayer game. Modded for multiplayer.

I think Co-Op in Skyrim would be epic, 2-4 players.

Yus, skyrim with Warband combat system and MP would be freaking epic.

Lucky it doesn't exist, cause I would have been too damn addicted

A working multiplayer mod was indeed done for Oblivion. And Skyrim is most likely multiplayer-moddable too.

But it took several years for the modders to develop their knowledge of the game and "state of the art" modding sophisticated enough to begin thinking about multiplayer.

Although MP TES would be epic (coop... or even MMO-like with a small number of players), it would have required an awful amount of time from the devs. Furthermore, they aren't used to it at all and could have fucked up everything. I'm already happy with a good solo game.

Just like with Oblivion, the vanilla version will be good, but show it's limits after a few hundred hours. By that time maybe a few good leveling, rebalancing, feature-adding, cosmetic, content-adding, etc. mods will be out and players will be able to restart the game from scratch and play something different and better :D

Iirc there's no "M&B-like combat" mod for Oblivion. I think it simply wasn't possible due to some hardcoded mechanics.

GTA San Andreas.

There are still a lot of People playing the Multiplayer mod for it.It´s a bit like an MMO, there are different jobs and gangs etc. you can sell drugs or be in the police or even be a Firefighter.

It´s not bad at all.

Oh and GTA 4 HAD Multiplayer from the Start.San Andreas didnt.

I wouldn´t see all that much good in Skyrim as a multiplayer game, co-op yes, but versus multiplayer? No, I don't see how and why it would be fun or work.

Actually, San Andreas already did have multiplayer in it albeit pretty limited as you both had to stay under the same camera and if I recall I don't think you could drive separate cars. Starting it involved finding an icon in certain areas that would allow a second player to chose a character model and you basically just went around shooting things.

I'm enjoying Skyrim right now with my kitty-kat character and all in all I'd give it an 8 so far for improved atmosphere but it's also a step back from oblivion in certain aspects. I for one enjoyed bunny-hopping across the world to level up acrobatics while simultaneously seeing how high you could drop before killing yourself and having your movement speed tied to an attribute with the amount of crap you were lugging around with you at any one time. These are just some minor gripes but I'm sure I could dig up more as I keep playing, they just seemed to have made things more "customizable" in some aspects and less so in others.

I think Co-Op in Skyrim would be epic, 2-4 players.

It would ruin the game, since every player has a different mainquest and stuff, so this would basicaly just mess up the game

It would take years to mod multiplayer into Skyrim and even then Skyrim would probably miss 80-90% of features.
