Title: So I tried playing this new Strategus.
Post by: Zorato on November 05, 2011, 09:57:12 pm
I wasn't expecting it to be the Premier Eel Farming Simulator Facebook game.

Strategus used to be fun two iterations ago but now it is a needlessly complicated trading game with the depth of a pancake.

I believe you don't fully appreciate the depth of this game. I just navigated a dangerous forest full of bandits after negotiating a high-stakes deal with a rival Fortune 5 Eel-Skinning company while inserting a corporate spy cell into their R&D division.

Through this, I managed to steal their latest skinning knife prototype. I sent this over to Matey in our own R&D, and his team managed to re-produce it. In five days, we just beat them to the patents.

So you thought sitting in towns doing "Work" was better than intercepting trade caravans and pillaging on the open plains?

....?

You easily can.  I was spectating a battle the other day where one of the teams had at least some selection of mail shirts and I even saw military cleavers.

I think most people are sticking to peasant gear because of the "you spawn with it, you lose it" bug (which I have yet to hear any dev acknowledge even though it's basically holding up all of strategus).

Well -- another reason is because people are taking villages when I believe chadz' official statement was that you shouldn't be taking them yet, because he had not yet decided on a population level.  So we are fighting villages with a pop of 500 when actually they maybe are supposed to be closer to 150.  We're equipping 800 peasants instead of 200 medium/light troops.  We're spending a whole lot of time recruiting troops that probably should have been spent on goods and caravans.

So basically it's still out of whack, even from chadz' intentions.

At least then I didn't have to babysit my character over a dumb bridge.

All of these dumb "realism" changes are making Strategus intolerable. It isn't just me that is having this problem, either. I know of at least one clan that half-quit this because of these dumb changes.

My biggest accomplishment in cRPG so far:

Naming goods.

(No not all of them)
