Title: Upcoming updates
Post by: chadz on October 31, 2011, 04:30:49 pm
So, I'm announcing this so I'm not fucking some traders over who happen to be in the field. Changes should happen within the next 24 hours.

- Faraway goods bonus will be vastly increased (probably up to +500%),
- The formula will be changed to flatten in the end,
- items and goods will slow you down if you don't have enough men,
- people will be able to see an estimate on how many items you are carrying,
- horses will help against slowing down.

Why show the number of goods being carried, isn't army size enough???  Will the weapons or approx amount of weapons an army (landowner or bandit) has and gold also be shown???  How about setting a range around a fief. castle, or town in which attacks can not happen?

p.s. appreciate the forewarning though

This will force caravans to be well armed, and bandits will have a few targets to hit. This means It is really important for large clans to clear their lands to caravans want to come to their lands. Also + +++++++ for more money.

Can you post the goods to troop ratio?

Post by: Erasmas on October 31, 2011, 05:15:30 pm
Actually, making caravans smaller, slower, more expensive (troop upkeep) and more vulnerable means ... less money :D but: more bandits, so: more battles.

Increase of the my old friend on short distance will prevent caravans going on long runs.

This will also encourage clans to take over land asap to prevent bandits being hosted (and enforced with troops) in the locations.

chadz could you make it so villages update their roster with people who signed up like 5 minutes till the battle? It only makes sense that the village grabs as much as it needs to help defend itself. All I'm asking for is have the village do like a last 5 minute check for any late sign ups.

What is 'enough men' based upon? It would be silly if 1 goods = 1 troop, or the notion that the 'troops' are actually carrying around this stuff.

Let us craft/build actual wagons (x amount of goods can be stored in X type) in order to speed things up then and lower the requirement of troops.

WAGONS! And they should be destructible ingame! And work like the equipment chests! YEAH!

make the game more daring by not showing any character information at all until after an attack is initiated.

I like this.

Boost to short-medium range trading, which is more realistic than expecting people to cross map.

Boost to political/warfare aspects. Banditry becomes more practical, while trade agreements become important. There should also be more quality battles over trade if people are defending their caravans properly.

Any word on the inventory bugs being fixed? Where even if you win, you lose what you were carrying/using at end of battle? Kinda blows if you have decent stuff on 30-50 people at end, and it gets vaporised.

That really needs to be fixed.

caravans being slowed down further?
they already get slower with more troops and now +/= the goods?!
this is gonna screw gold gain even more, won't matter much with the distance boost, noone will be stupid enough to turtle trough large distances, it will either cost more in upkeep or bandits are going to stumble upon you like stray cats after an stinking fishy in ya pants

the suggestion of wagons or equus africanus asinus's would be an great addition to this  8-)

That really needs to be fixed.

Yes, please fix the "lose surviving gear even if you win" bug, before working on anything else. It is pretty important, especially now that the battles can have 60 players again.

Very good changes, I approve.

Next priority should be neutral fiefs paying their mercenaries. In order to provide incentive to succeed in battle, the pay-off should be a quarter of what the mercenary signed up for if the result is a loss, and full pay if the attackers are held off. This will also encourage clans signing up as an entirety to help defend neutral fiefs.

I think this is a particularly good time for the Caravan Guild to start offering their Guarding services.

Fiq! Ready the battle kittens! Bjarky! Grab that wine! We've got a job to do!

Hold for more info. ;)

When will it be updated? December 2013?

Has there even been change yet?

Don't think so, movement speed seems to be the same.

seems to be some more work to do.

so uhhh... when is this happening? isnt it kind of fucking over traders to have this looming over their heads so that they bunker down and get ready for it instead of carrying on with their business? warning is nice... but maybe say like "golly gosh we are changing shit and gee willickers but itd be a dern good idea to be ready for it when it hits in X days!"

It was supposed to be "within 24 hours", presumably something unexpected happened (either with the code or other obligations or whatever).

That is of course 100% understandable, though an updated (estimated) scheduel of the change would be appreciated.

Second that motion, just give us a rough estimate so we dont leave traders stranded or hold off trading all together for weeks.
Title: Re: Upcoming updates
Post by: Bjarky on November 04, 2011, 09:20:06 pm
why hold off trading?
the update is a trade nerf, don't u see it?
Title: Re: Upcoming updates
Post by: Matey on November 04, 2011, 10:13:41 pm
aye i see it, but i dont want our traders getting stuck in the open running from fief to fief when it hits.
Title: Re: Upcoming updates
Post by: Bjarky on November 04, 2011, 10:40:09 pm
still, it would cost more to just wait and do nothing.
i rather be surprised and come to support a member with troops if needed.

While it would be nice to know when and what the changes are in advance of them happening.  I think chadz is trying to make sure he gets it right (like he said in the first post; he doesn't want to leave traders hanging and vulnerable.)  If that is the case I think we can all appreciate his effort.  I just hope it doesn't slow people down even more...everything moves so slow now!!!

That would be nice to know.  And the formula for speed impact.

If I wander out there with 100 troops and 300 goods I am screwed by how much, exactly?
Title: Re: Upcoming updates
Post by: Turkhammer on November 06, 2011, 06:05:12 am
Well I wandered out with 2 rouncies, 61 men and 78 goods and I'm going 13.5 mpm.  Previously with 61 men, no horses and 139 goods I was making 23 mpm.

An update post that has only made it to 3 pages?

At fifteen, I had the will to  learn ; at thirty, I could stand ; at forty, I had no  doubts ; at fifty, I understood the heavenly Bidding ;  at sixty, my ears were opened ; at seventy, I could  do as my heart lusted without trespassing from the  square..

- over 9000 to seeing what people are carrying. Should only kick in if you have more than 50 goods other wise the under class of traders and rogues won't be able to do anything. Don't force me into a clan, PLEASE!
