Axes should do more damage then swords. Also it should do more damage against plate then a sword. Axes need love too!
-
As much as i would like to see my axe buffed, no. Axes are balanced right now imo.
-
1h axes needs some love. 2h and pole are fine.
-
1h broad axe is pretty good. The Polearm axes are good, but there's the 2h axes aren't. There should be a high end one.

I love my 1h broad axe. It has no real drawbacks imo other than its short reach. But 2h axes could use a slight buff.
-
2h axes shouldn't be unbalanced imho.

Agreed. The Broad Axe is good. ALL THE OTHERS are bad. And even the Broad axe isn't that good. The swords are still close enough in damage AND got a stab AND are longer. The axes really should get a boost, especially the cheaper ones. Not necessarily a damage buff, but a speed buff would be nice. Currently my sword is better than a hatchet to destroy wooden objects. It just doesn't make much sense and gives me NO reason to carry it with me. Would be nice for them to be good at SOMETHING other than shields.
And 2h axes should continue being unbalanced. Maybe make them a bit slower and add some damage, but keep the unbalanced.

I agree with all the other 1h axes being terrible, that's why i don't use them. So i could see some buffs for the Iron War Axe and One Handed Battle Axe(non-broad). They are inferior in most ways to the 1h Broad Axe;
Iron Axe- 3 points less of speed, 4 less reach and higher difficulty for only 2 more cut damage. I think it could use a damage buff to compensate for the low speed and reach.
One Handed Battle Axe- 1 less cut and 1 more str point required for 3 more reach. This could use maybe some more reach but with less speed or damage, as to not make the Broad Axe inferior.
I quickly thought of the balancing stuff so please put some input on these suggestions.

Meh, just check how the character holds 2h axes.
Ever tried holding.. let alone swinging an axe like that?

From my woodchopping experience. Not...balanced...at...all! But you get a nice swing and I'm sure it'll do a lot of damage :D

Yeah but have fun recovering after every chop-chop. :)
You'd be tired as f*ck after some swings, and you'd be slain because you cannot parry with the axe, etc etc.

I'm sorry folks but this is under suggestions/REALISM not suggestions/game balance!
Act accordingly.

I'm gonna clean this up:
An overhead swing should split enemies in the middle and side-swings should take heads off. When an axe hits a wooden shield, it should get stuck. Enemies should have some sort of fear indicator that makes em run away, when someone charges alone and nacked with a 2h or pole axe, for he is clearly crazy and cares for shit. Players using axes should be able to be thrown by their own teammates, cause they are clearly dwarves and thus projectiles themselves as stated in this sientific demonstration (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKrei80jBg8).

Much better, you make me proud.
-
axes being unwieldy and unbalanced is actually a misnomer, symmetrical shaped axe heads were actually very well balanced. They are much more balanced than something like a morningstar or bardiche
I agree 1h & 2h should get a dmg boost

True that. But try gripping it like how the 2h anim does it on an axe.
 Have fun.

Only throwing axes and a handful of 1h type axes are really balanced.
Really the standard "wood chopping" axe may be better balanced then most of the 2h counterparts you would have available at the times.

Says who? People are surprisingly good at developing well made items for killing each other, and rare is the weapon that is not practical.

It would be surprising if a craftsman's/wood cutting tool is more fit at fighting than a specialized fighting axe.

One idea is is to give axes a mixture of cut&pierce or cut&blunt to make them better against armor than sword or especially than the drawn cut of katanas(which should be horrible against any metal armor).

Whoo. Lovely.

For some unknown reason this looks to me like bed&breakfast.
