Title: [STATS] Heavy Kite vs Heavy Heater shield
Post by: Penitent on October 26, 2011, 10:57:14 pm
This is a minor imbalance, but it is an imbalance nonetheless.

The Heavy Kite Shield is better than the Heavy Heater shield, but it costs less.

The Heavy Kite shield can take more sword hits, can take more axe hits, and is faster.

The Heavy Heater Shield has no advantages over the Heavy Kite shield, yet its costs a bit more.

Coverage areas are the same (2 pts height vs 1 point width)

Solutions:
Re-Balance the stats
OR
Re-balance the prices

Such a small imbalance?  Is it worth it?  BALANCE IS ALWAYS WORTH IT.  Stats below.

Heater's got 1 more armor and 1 more width. Width is a lot more important than height on an already tall shield.

Ok..ONE point of width...but the heavy kite can still take more axe and normal weapon hits.  No, that one point does not make up for it.  I'm sorry.  The 1 armor is nothing compared to +30 hps.

In fact, a loomed heavy heater shield (+1) is the same strength as an unloomed heavy kite shield.  Something ain't right.

One point of armor can make the difference again crossbow bolt penetration. I think 15-20 armor is about the range where it gets interesting against an arbalest keeping air friction induced damage loss in mind.

Quote
#missiles with damage > shield_penetration_offset + shield_penetration_factor * shield(armor)
#will penetrate.

shield_penetration_offset = 30.0
shield_penetration_factor = 3.0
