Title: [Question] Item Weight
Post by: Dexxtaa on October 26, 2011, 04:00:19 pm
Does item weight affect anything anymore? I remember it used to affect mobility and movement (acceleration, top speed etc). Now it doesn't really seem to have much effect.

2 shields used to be asking for death, but now I see plenty of people hauling 2 steel shields around like it was no problem.

The only time I notice any mobility increases with weight reduction is if I remove all my armor and pretty much lose all my weapons (picking my hafted blade over anything else). But in this case, it's a large change in weight carried.

I was wondering if small change (carrying an additional shield, picking up a bag of extra throwing shit, Grabbing a backup weapon) changed anything anymore.

It slightly affects wpf, which is big for archers and throwers..

Every ounce reduces movement speed, theres such a huge difference between heavy armor and light armor.

The reduction of WPF is only your armour weight, carried weapons don't reduce it.

how much weight does it take to make your wpf go down?

WPF starts decreasing from every bit of armour over 7 (or 7.5 or 7.7). This weight is calculated with x3 headarmor and x2 handarmor (not sure if it's not the other way around)(actually not sure if this is true at all, correct me if I'm wrong). I think after passing the 7 ish mark wpf decrease is linear with armour weight increase.

The difference in movement is noticable. When I wear only a robe I move reasonably faster then with Light Kujak and Great Helmet.

There's a graph in this thread...also a link to Waltf4's original study is in this thread.

Does holstered weapons even effect running speed or wpf :?:

They decrease running speed, not wpf. Carrying a 3 weight weapon around is the same as getting a body armour with 3 weight more. The weight of the weapon you have in your hands slows you down more than just its own weight. Thats why holstering weapons make you speed up, try moving with a great maul in your hands and then holster it.
