I don't mind the upkeep system at the moment: I don't like wearing heavy armour and such and I'm naturally frugal (Scottish). However, I was thinking of how the upkeep system affects certain builds, say dedicated throwers and x-bow people.
I was wonder if it was possible to link %-repair chance to wpf and shield skill, e.g. 10%/min for 0 wpf; 5%/min for 100 wpf; etc. (just numbers)?
Would this be a good/bad/pointless idea?

Look, its a ninja suggesting a boost for agi builds.

Speaking as a ninja, this doesn't matter. I don't lose money with either my archer, 2hander, 1 hander or polearm ninja.
-
It would help your x-bowman Bruce. You could take two siege x-bows and a good pole-arm (depending on where the values are set).
On a side note: maximum upkeep on my main is only ~800; I've never lost gold over more than 5 rounds; and its against the clan* rules to use most expensive arms and armour.

Agaisnt what rules?

I don't mind this idea.
But it should be better done with new noncombat skills.
Smith - reduces upkeep on metal weapons and armor by x
Fletcher - ...
...
But I think this has been suggested several times.

He's talking about ninja clan rules.
