Title: What's up with those bucklers?
Post by: Adamar on October 25, 2011, 04:08:46 am
Bucklers seem to have a bigger hitbox than its model. As an archer it feels like the buckler has some form of magnet that makes the shielder impervious to arrows. Using leoking as a test subject, some of my arrows got stuck in thin air outside his shield, and That shouldn't happen.
I assume this isn't a new issue, so if there's more to it please clarify.

They do have a forcefield, if they didn't they be goddamn awful. Even now they're barely used.

Down with the forcefield then. Real bucklers would require more user-skill considering their size, just make them almost unbreakable in turn.
Every item should be properly implemented.

I think the hitbox affects melee combat too. If so, making the buckler smaller might cause a lot of bugs for shielders using it.

Meaning, the shielder would actually have to turn his shield towards the incoming attack? Wouldn't that the better/more realistic/only for pro's?

It would make the bucklers more shit than they already are is what it would do.

They are already barely used and are more of a style thing for some players.  They do have a forcefield but you can shoot around them easily enough if you aim for extremities.

This would be too much of a nerf to shielders in general, but it would be cool if bucklers were the only shields that had 100 speed.  That or greatly increase their armor.  I feel like bucklers should have some sort of benefit, but they really don't.

No. It'd be even worse than manual blocking.

If you use your imagination, you can think that the pro shieldsman is actually moving his buckler to take the incoming arrows. That's what I imagine ha.

Thats was Taleworlds justification about the fact that having more shield skill made the blocking area bigger.

Without forcefield shieldwalls would shatter instantly, because everyone would be getting hit in their feet.

Forcefields are fine, it just looks a bit ridiculous with the buckler, but thats pretty much just Leoking and Mala.

Who are pretty much the only ones using them consistently. Bring any form of axe and you'll eat through them in no time.

The forcefield is an abstraction to represent the ability of an actual shield user to reposition the shield effectively in ways that the engine is incapable of doing.

A buckler barely fits into the shield catagory anyways. I guess it was included for style reasons.

This.

Even with a bigger shield a good archer is able to hit the man behind.

To be fair, the same thing happens with armour, i take the full hit of an arrow that hasn't even touched me... :P

Jacko headshotted me the other day OVER my board shield on Port Assault, from the boat on the right of the right hand pier... I was on the pier. He was LOWER than me, I had my shield raised, and he shot me IN THE HEAD. Obviously that took skill, but if you had a board shield raised and were facing someone lower than you, you would be confused. Inb4 low shield skill, mine is 6. Inb4 Xant calls me noob, stfu.

It's annoying shooting at those guys as they come towards you, and have their bucklers catch your arrows even if you aim at their heads and knees, so then they can just spam kill you afterwards. My point was, there are plenty of shields that look like they can catch arrows, why should bucklers be the same...

They are Tier 6 shields. If they were really that small in the forcefield, then they would have to be tier 1 or 2 for being so bloody useless.
