Title: Polearm Build?
Post by: Iryl on October 21, 2011, 02:33:39 pm
Hello, I recently started playing this game and I'm interested in a polearm character.
I found some builds but those were from a long time ago, maybe things changed.
If someone could post/link me a good build and/or even tell me what equipment to buy for low/mid/high levels, that will be awesome.

PS: all builds are for level 30/31 (obviously) but I'd like to know what is a good order to put my skills/attributes in.

24/15, pretty much the ultimate polearm build. High HP, good hitting power and still not slow.

24 STR, 15 AGI

8 PS
5 ATH
5 WM

rest in IF

Thanks, any ideas for gear to buy for low/mid/high level? since I don't want to spend coins on gear that might not be ideal.

Polearms, for the most part, use support weaponry.

Medium armor tends to be what you go for.

I personally use low level plate (Corazzina armor + Sugarloaf Helm) when going into most battles.

I've seen many successful polearm builds running around with cavalry robes, brigandines (upper level medium), and mail surcoats.

Canary himself cruises with lower tier armor (Khergit Lammelar) and looks damned sexy in it.

~
HOWEVER

Polearms tend to be cheaper than two-handed swords, so you'll be alright with going with something more expensive as far as gear goes.

You can buy a Spear, it requires 6 str, pretty good for the early levels. If you have 11 str already buy a Warspear, its just a little better. After that just buy the polearm you think you will use at high level. There are several good choices, you should look around the battlefield and pick up different polearms, to get a good idea of which one you like.

Best of luck, chief.

Spear is an excellent choice to roll with. High speed, low drag!

But that not being the point, you'll be using your stab quite a bit to deal the damage you're looking for.

Is the long spear any good? since the weapon length is so high.
If you have some ATH you can just run in hit and run back right? :p

Exactly. Long spear is a fantastic weapon, great cav defense and very good for high KD :D

27/12 with 9 IF, 9 PS, 4 Ath and 1 WM. Everything in polearms. Medium armor with pike/long spear + some sort of poleaxe. Like a boss

The military scythe is cheap, but does a very good amount of damage. A great choice for x1 rounds.

For anything besides a longspear/pike/scythe I'd suggest going for a little more agility than the standard 2h build. Higher overall stab damage means you don't need as much ps and shorter effective length (longer length + higher weight) means you move slower, ath is good for compensating.

To get really good with the long spear, I suggest not carrying a backup weapon, atleast for a while. It forces you to learn quickly the length and speed of it. This also saves you money too.
